    Default Masculine fabric color advise?

I just received the news that someone special in my kiddo’s life will be leaving our district and I wanted to put a little something together. I would describe him as a clean cut and crisp dresser who is a meticulous and contemporary kind of man. More than likely he has all stainless steel appliances in a clean lined modern home with a manicured lawn, yet he is a salt of the earth kind of person with a gentle soul.

Yellow and grey came to mind, but I’m not sure if there is enough depth to it. He does not strike me as a quilt kind of person at all, but perhaps something small to put in his new office…. like a mug rug maybe?

    Any suggestions?

I just made a Jrr2 quilt with Indigo collection, other than a few strips with flowers on them, which I took out, it turned out as a pretty manly quilt. It has the look of denim jeans.

I like the mug rug idea. Do you know what the colors will be for his new office or school district? That might give you a direction to go. Or if he is no longer going to be in education what about colors from the current school district.

As far as a quilt goes, there are several options. We had a great teacher who left the district last year and someone made a t-shirt quilt out of school shirts. Do you know any hobbies or activities that he enjoys? There is this https://www.missouriquiltco.com/shop...quarter-bundle that could be used as it is a neutral color palate or add in some yellow or other solid color. Possibly do a disappearing 9 patch.

Going only from your description, the grey seems appropriate, but combined with yellow does not seem to match with the rest of your description. I would pick my colors from a very conservative mens tie. Grey with tiny touches of a contrast color, maybe black, beige, navy, or red. Maybe a plaid if he is a plaid wearer.

A meticulous man may be horrified at the thought of placing a mug on a mug rug, but may really enjoy a conservative coozie that wraps around your coffee cup so you don't burn your fingers.

I think something modern. Mug rugs in black and white or red and white. Something like a simple 4 patch. Keep it clean and simple.

Blues and Greys (almost) always work for guys.
You could also try greens & browns. Here are some of my favorite manly quilts

How about a small wallhanging using school t-shirts? Maybe 3 across and 3 down with a hanging sleeve on the back. Or even smaller with just one t-shirt in the center with a border? Is there one with the school mascot?

I recently made a baby quilt that had a lot of applique on it. I attached a hanging sleeve to the back and included an inexpensive rod with command strip hooks so the wall would not be damaged. I can't get over how strong those command strips hooks are. DH installed one on the back side of a bathroom door (which is wood and porous) several years ago and it is still there.

I'd look at some non floral batiks. I just made a throw with minky backing using some Stonehenge fabrics with a deep red/black scaly kind of looking batik background. Looks awesome together. Masculine colors definitely.

My first thought from your description is black and white with a modern design.
