Did the right thing instead of what I really wanted to do
A mini story: So, I get home yesterday and there is a tall box at my door - the same type box I received from fabric.com two days before with my order. Yes, you guessed it, they duplicated my order, 3 items anyway. One of the items was 16 yards of a white on white. In this box was one of my back ordered items as well.
The dilemma, dang it is, my parents brought me up and drilled into my head, do not keep or take anything not mine. And my granddaughter is there with me, knowing I received two of the same order. What to do......
Yes, of course I have to call and let them know. I also have to let them know one of my backordered items did not come in the package. I call, and they are not allowed to let me keep the extra order as they have no way to charge me, they will send UPS to pick it up. So, they are picking up the duplicate order and re-sending my missing fabric.

Honesty is the best policy! But not always easy.

I commend you and say your Grand daughter has learned something special "by the example set"...

If doing the right thing were easy, it wouldn't be commendable. Too bad they didn't either (a) let you benefit from their mistake (I've had vendors sometimes do that) or (b) let you pay for the extra you received at the same price. No matter. You taught your granddaughter a valuable lesson through your actions and you feel better about yourself. I'm sure the universe will reward you somehow -- even if it is just our praise.

Of course you did the right thing, no question, but I know it was hard to give back that lovely fabric.

Way to go. You taught your Granddaughter a valuable lesson. (That is if she was paying attention). If you would have kept it without saying anything Karma would not have been on your side. You would have had issue after issues with that fabric when you tried to use it.
Have a great day.
