That looks just like the one I first learnt to use. I can still remember the feeling of my feet on the treadle. I would love to have another go.....Lucky you.
Beautiful gift and surprise Meli! I learned how to sew on a treadle machine, wish I still had it. Found one today that was a 1950's model (no treadle), in great shape, cabinet was too, but needing some touchup refinishing. No feet though and passed it up, they only wanted 75 bucks for it, but am saving for my LA. I hope she's up and running soon for you so we can see what you create with this beauty!

Don't worry if plan A fails, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet!!
Melissa, that's a beauty! Another thing we have in common! lol I have on in the garage that I need to restore the cabinet.
Our Sandy Nova has a lot of vintage Singers and is quite knowledgeable. She also can give you links to sources where to get belts and parts for the machines as well as how to clean it.
Have fun with your new baby.

Well, I'll be darned. I had no idea people still use these machines. When my grandmother died, my mother gave me her vintage Singer machine. Until today, I had never even looked at it. I just used the cabinet to hold a lamp.
Tonight I opened the cabinet and beneath about an inch of dust, I found what appears to be a machine in fairly good condition. I didn't see any rust, but I didn't look "inside" anything, so who knows. The rope thingy is there, but there is only one foot which is on it.
It would be fun to get this going, though I am curious why people would prefer to use a vintage machine over a newer machine.
Anyhow, the serial number is AA576634. I think that makes it a 1925 according to some website. If I should get this working, is it possible to use current feet and needles? (It uses a round bobbin and it appears that there is one in it b/c there is thread coming up out of the bottom.)
Do I take this machine in to get cleaned and oiled? Or is that something I should do myself?
Can't wait to see her when she is fixed up. Looks like you have a wonderful machine![]()
