I am so happy for you! What a truly fantastic find. Congratulations on having such a tangible keepsake from your past. I know you'll enjoy working on it, smell or not! (I also recommend Fabreez over washing the blocks.)

Wow! How exciting! Be sure to post pics!
What about putting the blocks in a large container with some new dryer sheets and an open box of baking soda?
Not sure if fabreeze makes a dryer sheet. Also there is a product called damp rid that helps pull moisture out of damp smelling clothing and it works great.
Also heard that cat litter made of silica also takes out old damp smells. You put it in a white sock and tie it up and leave it in the box!
My friends hear the song in my heart, and sing it to me when my memory fails.

I think I'd start with hanging them on the laundry drying rack for a few days. That worked wonders with a craft kit I bought on eBay once.
can you sit the blocks in a closed container with baking soda?maybe a couple of bowls of it

Congratulations. That is a wonderful find. I would be overjoyed to have something like that handed down.

I cooked today. I made a quilt sandwich
Oh, I am so giddy about it!! I found out that this particular set of blocks was a combination effort between Aunt Emmy (my great-great aunt who was blind) and my great-grandmother. There's 44 machine stitched and 17 hand stitched. Last night, as I was going through things, I found completed blocks for 3 more quilts! One was definitely my Grandma's, because it was newer material and all machine stitched. The other 2 are all hand stitched (by Aunt Emmy).

Anita, you are holding a whole lot of family history right there in your hands. Can't wait to see what you do with them. And I have a funny feeling Aunt Emmy and Grandma are smiling from all your excitement.

Please post pictures when you are done. I would love to see it.

What a fabulous treasure, I wish I could find something like that. Lucky you!! The most amazing thing to me is your aunt was blind yet still able to piece blocks. Sometimes I have a hard time with that and I have two good eyes. Post pictures, would LOVE to see it all put together.
