Default Pfaff IDT vs Juki 2010

I love my Pfaff machines, with their great feeding system. I have been seeing rave reviews about the Juki 2010 machine. I am thinking about a machine with thread cutter, needle up/down and ability to sew without the foot pedal.
I have no Juki dealer near me, and would love to hear how it does piecing for quilting vs. the Pfaff. All of the new machines have so many computer interfaces and then issues with them. Would love a simple machine with all the bells and whistles.

First of all, the main difference between a fancy Pfaff (one w/several decorative and utility stitches to choose from) and the Juki is exactly that. The Juki does only the straight stitch, nothing more. It is a heavy machine, all metal, and a true work horse. I have just gotten mine last week and only practiced fmq on it, but believe me, it works like a charm. It is also an ideal machine for paper piecing as it has the thread cutter and makes it much easier

If you are thinking of getting a Juki, I would not trade in your Pfaff, just add the Juki to your collection! They are different as night and day.

That is a contradiction of terms. A simple machine will not have all the "bells and whistles."

I think most people get the Juki because of the large throat space and the fact that it does FMQ really well. Like Pat said, you can't really compare it to a Pfaff, sort of like comparing apples and oranges.

After reading the review of Jake aka the juki, I have also been thinking of adding one. Right now I have an older pfaff that I love but would like that bigger throat space but without going to the newer pfaffs that are now made in China.

The Juki 2010 has a speed control but it doesn't have a start/stop button so you have to use the foot pedal to sew. The thread cutter can be activated by pushing a button on the machine or with the foot pedal by pushing down on the back of the pedal with your heel. There are few "bells and whistles" on the Juki, but it's an excellent semi-industrial straight stitch machine.

Actually on the one I got, the thread cutter is on the front of the pedal which I don't understand. May have to turn the pedal around!

Love, love, love my juki!! Can you tell how much I love this machine? This is really a serious quilting machine and I have not had any problems with it. My previous machine, Janome Horizon, was very temperamental - threw fits at the worst times. After 18 months of this, had to change machines and went to the Juki. Previous to these two machines had a Pfaff which worked pretty well - not as heavy duty as the Juki, but can still do fancy stitches and I will still keep it. Good luck with your new machine (whichever one you chose). Linda

I actually tried turning the pedal around and kept forgetting how to "make it go" and also kept cutting my thread when I didn't want to. There is a learning curve for the cutter being on the pedal, but eventually it becomes second nature. I love my Juki 2010 so much. Every time I look at a fancier machine, I realize I don't need all that machine. I already have all I need.
