No you don't need to do a French Seam when you use a Serger, the only thing is that the hospitals require us to use 100% cotton thread on our pillowcases due to the commercial dryers they use. Poly can melt at high heat.

I purchase my 100% cotton sewing/serger thread 3000 yards for $3.95 at Thread Art

Heavy Duty Cotton Thread | Strong Cotton Thread | Large Cotton Thread

For my other projects I go to wawak.com - they carry 70+ colors of MaxiLock Serger thread, 5000 yards per spool at $1.99.

We'll be starting our Easter Drive in January - you can also join the Cyber Elves Give Back group here on M* and on FB (It's a closed group, so just as to join and I'll approve you. Invitation open to all M* Forum members.

I'll also PM this info to you just in case you don't come back to this thread.

Can I just pop in with a question on 'thread' - just today I realized that I will be needing more thread (black, navy, white and some assorted colors) and was going to ask for a suggestion on what is a good source at reasonable prices. All my thread fm life before quilting is polyester, so need a good supply of cotton. Is the 40 wt. fm Thread Art a good quilting thread or is that for sergers? Or is there another source you could recommend? Thank you and sorry for the interruption. "B"
