Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
Before we went to the MSQC Fall Forum retreat, I wanted to build samples of all three styles of JRR quilts that Jenny has done tutorials on. I halfheartedly did the JRR2 last. I dug through my stash and found a three year old jelly roll called Midwinter Reds. Well, it turned out prettier than my wildest dreams ( this is the quilt BobW is trying to get me to turn over to him!). I don't ever want to part with it, but the fabric line is long gone. To make another would be impossible! But wait, the same designers have revamped the line, using the same color way, revamping some of the prints and creating new ones and now it's available as CRAZY FOR RED, and it's the DD for today! I already bought one Crazy For Red jelly roll, do I need two? Maybe!
It's beautiful! I'll vouch for it to be a wonderful collection for a beautiful warm RED quilt!
And by using a half a charm pack and 1yard of border fabric, it makes a very generous lap size quilt, covers the top of my queen bed!

I think you need two or maybe even three! I have a picture of a top in MidWinter Reds in my album. It is one of my favorites also. I noticed the same thing this morning while looking at the DD, in my cart it went. A birthday present to myself. I have some leftovers from the top I made and was thinking I could combine the two for another top. We both have good taste, do we not?

We definitely do, Carolyn! Did you see the theme of the Houston International Quilt Expo this year was Red and White Quilts! Definitely one of my favorites!

I hesitated - which is probably a good thing. Guess who stocked up on red and white fabrics while at the retreat . . . definitely a R&W in my future. You do realize, Jean, if you buy a couple of the new JRs that boB could be a recipient?? Just keep track of your costs and then quadruple them . . . he's good for it.

You are the devil's advocate, aren't you? I just bought a red and white jelly roll on the Black Friday sale, I'm getting loaded up on red and white myself!
Or Bob could buy his own and learn how to make the JRR quilts for himself! He could earn the title of Jelly Roll King!

Jean did you use the charm pack for the squares in the JJR2. I remember well this quilt and I have to have one. So nice.
Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
As soon as I saw the JR DD...who do you think immediately came to mind?? :D
You do realize it's that quilt that started my downfall.....right?
Between your quilt and Jenny's "Oh look how easy it is!!" I started down this road of addiction that I may never recover from.
Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
I have hemmed and hawed over whether to get the daily deal - Jean, your photo made me hit the buy button! It's the first JJR quilt I've seen that I really like. Thanks for sharing.

Yes Nan, I used charm squares for my squares, you only need 20 to add the 3" rectangles ( which I did for some strange reason) or 10 if you do 2-1/2" squares. Or you can just use a strip or two from the set and cut them up into squares, it all ends up back in the quilt so it doesn't take away that much from the width.

Thanks Jean. I bettcha Bob buys this DD. Unless of course he cons you into making it for him. He was so enamoured of yours at the Retreat it was funny. I am really glad you posted today because on my computer that JR looked rust and so I wasn't so interested but as soon as you said it was the same as yours I was gone "again" and ordered. I added the charm pack too because I am such a copy cat. Thanks for posting this. It is just a delicious quilt to snuggle up with. I think this deserves a nice flannel backing.

Oh yes, flannel backing for sure! Mine is backed with a rich crimson backing, and I am using it on my bed every one of these cold nights!
Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
I broke down and bought todays DD. How could I resist!

Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
I too fell prey to the DD demon. I am not really a red lover but fell in love with the MidWinter reds line and loved the quilt I made but gave it away. May have to keep this one, my guest room is calling for a remake with these lovely colors.
Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
Oh dear... I truly loved that DD when I saw it, but resolved that I do not need anything more to add to the 'room'. And I've never worked with a jelly roll (I'm actually quite new to the precuts, thanks to Jenny!) - but after seeing yours, Jean, I am SO tempted! Never really wanted to even make the JRR quilt - but yours is really stunning! And I love red!! Oh, I a weakening... now if it was 'free shipping' today I wouldn't even hesitate! But if I know I have to pay shipping, it tends to make me buy more, to even out the shipping.
Anybody else have that problem???!! :icon_beuj:
Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
Oh darn...now I might just have to order the DD. You are all a bunch of enablers, you know??? LOL
Re: Today's Daily Deal--a jelly roll to love!
I know a quilt shop locally that has midwinter red yardage for $6/yd during the month of Dec. I actually bought a couple yards of two prints the other day. What a temptation....but I have so much fabric now...can I justify more? I also bought today's DD. Couldn't resist.

Well Jean if you remember I like to make BIG jelly roll quilts. LOL but I think I will limit this one to one jelly roll.
