Daily Deal ?

I will be making a lap quilt for my FIL soon and was wondering....
Do you think today's Daily Deal is to feminine? If not...
What pattern would you use? I was thinking Phoebe's Flower Box possibly.

I like today's Daily Deal pattern and I always wonder what I would make with a Jelly Roll. I never saw the Phoebe's Flower Box pattern/tutorial before you just mentioned it. I really like it! I think it would make a nice quilt for your FIL. No, I don't think too feminine, just be careful choosing the border fabric. What would you use as a contrast? Cream?

I really liked the deal today so ordered it plus a thing or two.
I plan on using something in a Kim Bracket book I have, not sure what. I would like to find a larger print that coordinates for a border or focus fabric. I will take it to a LQS [50ish miles away, ug] when I get it to pick something out.

I just looked at the Crossroads/Smokey River thread and that quilt seems to me to be perfect for this jelly roll. All those motifs in the fabric look like men's tie designs and that is something I always am drawn to.

I like it for a log cabin pattern. I would choose a pretty cream tone on tone to complement it. Find out what his favorite color is and use it for the center block.

Using a jelly roll for a log cabin block and using a 2 1/2" square in the middle will give you a 14 1/2" block.

It is feminine to me. I'd do more civil war prints for a man. My husband likes those deep dark colors... and he likes the brights of Batiks... so does my son. One son likes geometric prints. Another son likes patterns with lots of small pieces, and one likes patterns that are not busy, not lots of small pieces. My daughter likes the Bonnie and Camille stuff. LOL.

Thanks all, I did order it but do think it may be too feminine but sure I will use it for another quilt. When it arrives, I'll have to take a closer look, I have been wanting to make a log cabin may have to try one with this.

It's called Out of the Den and would make a great guy quilt. It's a layer cake and Jenny has lots of tutorials for layer cakes.
