Annika, I think more variety in the fabrics is what you need - and maybe more contrast. Keep working on it - I know you will come up with something beautiful - you always do!
I like the idea of red sashing, too. Might bring out the red in the squares a bit. Beautiful job of piecing, by the way. Do you have a piece of red or a wide red ribbon you could demonstrate with?
I am also for dark red or dark blue sashing. The darker sashing will allow each block to stand on its own and not fight for attention with the other blocks.
Hey Annika...........remember Cyndi's quilt that she didn't like a while back........sashing made the difference. Here is a picture.

I think the red or blue sashing would look great.
I think sashing is the key so the blocks show up better. I vote for a dark blue.
I like your blocks. I don't think the light yellow for the sashing is the best choice. Maybe a brighter yellow or red or navy blue. Can't wait to see what you decide. I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
I agree that sashing would help so the blocks aren't right next to each other. I'd probably try white sashing and red cornerstones. You need something to unify them. Sashing and cornerstones will do the trick.
I vote for a dark blue sashing, but not as dark as navy. My eye sees the block with the plaid fabric and wants to see more of them, like three or four more mixed in.
I vote dark blue sashing w/red cornerstones!!
