well, kind of! I don't venture out of the house on the REAL Black Friday...but yesterday I went to Walmart for something else and decided to just browse the fabrics. I don't need anything, but...you know that pull that you get when you just know fabric is near by!
They had a large end table thing full of bolts that they had marked down $2-$5 a yard. I know all the issues with Walmart fabric, I seldom buy any there, simply cause coupons at Joann's are a better deal. And I know to look closely at it as some is thinner than Joann's. But this was actually marked as "quilting" fabric and I recognized the name brand, (but can't think of it now) but it all felt thick and was not see-thru and did the wrinkle test fine to verify 100% cotton and it was $2-$2.50 a yard 100% cotton....sooooooo I chose these four and then 2 more that I forgot to include in the picture. A blue floral print and a solid blue to match it.
I had just got out of my funk of "nothing to make" and these three solids and the print all match perfectly and at the price.. I got 1,1/4 yard each. I know I can get at least 2 small quilts from them and possibly a third with a little help from my own stash. I was asked to make a few for some elderly ladies at church.
I am looking forward to creating a quilt with them. Sounds kind of stupid, but you know how it goes! I am trying to branch out and learn some new patterns and techniques (currently working with a D9P). So I was happy that for $22 I got enough nice fabric to make 4 quilts. Guess I'll be busy for a while! The lady also comissioned me to make small tote bags for the kids for next summers DVBS of about 30 kids...so I have to make 30 of them. I just make them big enough for a coloring book with slots on the front of the tote for crayons. I gave them 4 a few months ago, and they liked them. I had to laugh, she sent me $20 asking for 25 totes! I am not going to charge them anything, but I know this lady and she will be upset if I refuse her money so I'll chalk it up to shipping charges! I made her and several other ladies lap quilts for prayer meetings they have in the mornings as the church is so cold.
So that is my Black Friday...two days early.... oh, but this morning I had a Black Friday early.....The Coffee Bean coffee place (mortar and online store) I buy their teas when a free shipping promo comes around and I treat myself to one canister ($9) when they offer free shipping. THis morning I get an email saying 33% off orders placed BEFORE 11am today and free shipping! So, I ordered 3 cans of flavored teas...2 I have already had and love and a new one..cinnamon flavor. So I got the canisters for $6 and free shipping instead of $9 and $6 shipping....or $9 and free shipping! I never pay for shipping... just wait for the sale! And now I have enough tea to last me all winter.(hot tea/bags)
I am all alone today and sorry if I chatter alot...just wanted to chat and share my "black friday" bargains!
