Black Friday - Are you ready?
Let me start by saying that I do NOT visit any stores (Brick & Mortar or Online) on Black Friday. The truth is I cannot.
We (DH & I) visit his parents for Turkey Day. They just happen to live where I get zero bars on my iPhone and the closest small town is 45 minutes away. Problem solved - no shopping, no craziness, no deals, no crowds, no excitement whatsoever.
Here is a piece of information that some of you may find useful. Right now, at Joann's the Keepsake Calico Fabrics are 50% off and Kona Solids are 30% off (which is rare). Will it get better on Black Friday?
Not for the Keepsake Calico Fabrics. Those will be $2 off. So, if you want to shop those, do it today because 50% off is better than $2 off.
Batiks (small selection) are full price. Use the 60% off coupons on those. But hurry the 60% coupon is valid only today.
Some of you may be wondering - Great, what can I buy on Black Friday? Flannel is 75% off and Quilter's Showcase fabrics are 60% off. I did not look at rulers, irons, scissors, batting etc.

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Thanks!! I hate going out on Black Friday!!
Have a safe trip!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
No Black Friday for me! There's no bargain big enough to entice me to face those crowds.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Don't need a thing . . . and definitely don't need anything that I'd have to fight for to save money.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
No Black Friday for me either. Just don't need anything that bad.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
JoAnn's will have the fiscar scissors on sale I think 60% off I don't remember, I do know they will be at 40% for sure.

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I hate Black Friday....it has gotten crazy. When I was little we ate at my Granny's house and then after dinner she would get out the Sears Wish Book and all us cousins could look for the ONE gift that we wanted for Christmas. The memories were great. No Christmas lights until AFTER Thanksgiving. No Christmas ads, etc. Thanksgiving was a special day of thanks, family and good eats. It is still my favorite holiday.

I wish this were still true today! No black Friday for me either, I don't like to shop so the craziness makes it worse!

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Thanks for the Joann update, Preeti! The flannel sound tempting, but I am on a very strict fabric diet right now, so I am going to pass on it. (I hope I can make do with what I have in my stash! LOL!)
I have never been, nor do I ever plan to be, a Black Friday shopper. Some seem to enjoy this type of shopping and the sales are appealing to them. I don't like the crowds, and I have never needed a sale item badly enough to deal with those crowds. I just hope those who do go shopping are physically safe.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I'm not a black friday person either. Makes me shutter.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
The only shopping I will do is on-line.
I CANT WAIT to see what M* and a few of my other favorite stores will have on sale Friday. I have a huge cart ready to go and I am hoping for some deals on what I am ordering.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Preeti, thanks so much for the info, but this gal has never shopped a Black Friday, nor will she. Online, or local shopping for the small business owners, and M*.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I won't be out shopping on Black Friday. If I find something online, I'll order it, but I've already got the DS and grandkids their "big" gifts ordered and some delivered. Yesterday, I treated myself to an IKEA LED desk lamp at the local fabric store for $15. I thought that was a good deal.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I am definitely not a Black Friday shopper. I love a bargain but being in crowds of rude people fighting over things is not my idea of fun. Think I'll stay home and play with fabric! :D
.....and I'll keep humming that Target Christmas theme song that I have stuck in my head! :D They have been playing this ad since Halloween and it completely stuck in my brain.............Da dada da dada dada..... :D

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I knew about that sale Preeti...I saw the ad and I was ready to stock up today (or yesterday) on Legacy Studio solids at 50% off and Calico Keepsakes at 50% off...but looking at my stash... and knowing that the coupons come every month for 50% off...and not wanting to deal with the lines and crowds.., I decided I don't really need to go today! OR on Black Friday! I will check a few online stores that I shop from time to time and COnnecting Threads, hopefully will have their thread on sale and I intend to get that, but other than that... I don't see much shopping for me. I mean, (and don't throw sticks at me....) how much fabric do I really need that I have to go through all that mess to get it now!?

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I don't do black Friday either, except online - I usually shop Kohls and get great deals on nice accessories for my girls, and Kohls cash back to spend later.
I DID go to JoAnn's last year at 6am, but it was in a smaller town near our timeshare. I needed a lot of things because I was outfitting my sewing room and they had those great deals on the Ott lites and other things. Crowded but people were so polite! I did not need any fabric at that point so I did not have to wait in the line for that. I am tempted, though, by the 75% off flannel - I may make an early run for that - we'll see, since there is a storm coming too...
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I'm going to try for the 75% flannel bolts tomorrow morning. I doubt I'll venture out Friday morning, though.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I don't do Black Friday either. I did for a few years but not shopping I had to work the day as most retail does. I was lucky to behind a register not working the floor, some of those people are really crazy, running pushing and just all around rude. There is nothing I need bad enough to make me shop on that day. I would rather pay more than fight the crowds. During the holiday season I usually shop the first hour the store is open a lot less pressure. Have a safe day if you do shop.
Happy Thanksgiving

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I have only done one Black Friday and then I just went to say I went. I will probably never go again. I wasn't impressed.:icon_rolleyes:
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I won't leave the house that day. If there's anything I need, it can wait a day or two. People are rude enough on regular shopping days.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
No shopping for me black friday and if I didn't work I would not be out at all.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
My Black Friday shopping is from the comfort of my home. I ordered two rolls of batting and Kona solids from Joann's today. I don't see anything else in the flyer I need so probably won't even look at their website Friday.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I went last year! It will be my last black Friday shopping in-store! If I want anything I will do it all online this year! It's not worth all the hassle!
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I refuse to take part in Black Friday and I may just decide this year not to do any of my shopping at stores that insist on opening Thanksgiving day for the same craziness. Maybe if more people stood up and do this, things would be different.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
No black Friday for me. I am staying at home and working on my Christmas gifts. I went today and the traffic was rough, and since we have a snowstorm coming our way I will being staying in tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving to all:icon_wave:

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I do not shop on black friday or thanksgiving day either. Years ago stores were closed for the holiday and they should get back to doing that.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I have zero plans to go out shopping on Black Friday. There is nothing that I need to get. I have most of the Christmas shopping done - still have several things to get made or finished up. The few things that I have left to get won't be on sale anyway.
I am hoping to get some sewing done on quilts that day.

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Verenaerin, I've been thinking about you, how are you feeling?

I so agree. I do not work Turkey day, but the store does open in the after noon toll 2 am friday I think. When people tell me they can't believe the store is open, I tell them if they stayed home we would make no money and not open next year...Do they listen....NOPE
Not looking forward to a double shift (for me thats 8 hours of pure ______ on friday, people get whiney and cranky and bring the kids who are even worse.
On a side note. I was told today that tents were set up at best buy and people were actually living in them waiting for the specials and with small kids...they are allowed to plug their generators in to the store outlets for electric and heat and use the store bathrooms for potty breaks... Come on people is it worth it? The help at best buy say the bargains are no better then presidents day sales...
Makes me want to run screaming into the nearest hole and pull the hole in after me.

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
My plans for Friday involve staying home. Maybe doing some online shopping but I will mostly be sewing, sewing, sewing. I've got a quilt to finish that will be given as a gift on Monday at work. I have never done the Black Friday shopping thing. Too many people and I would probably wind up not getting anything. If I need to go shopping, I prefer to go right after work. It seems that is sort of an in-between time. The afternoon shoppers have gone home and the evening shoppers haven't arrived yet.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
My hat is off to Joann's for having their sale start on Wednesday, be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and then continue with the sale days. Some items are tempting but then I remember the four grand kids I already have fabric for and suddenly staying home seems SO right! Bev

Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Well I work in a Hospital- so we are open 24/7 and I will be working grave yard shift until 8am on Thanksgiving day. I will be taking part in the Hancocks balck friday sale- I got a certificate for 75% off fleece and I will be using it! lol.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I am not a Black Friday shopper and don't plan to start anytime soon. I will be home working on some Christmas gifts. I won't start decorating for Christmas until December....so I have the entire week-end to just sew or do whatever else I want.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
The snow started here (in Central PA) at 5:30 this morning. I stepped in to get a shower and 20 minutes later everything is covered in white. Definitely not going out to shop today, tomorrow, or Friday. Nothing is worth the hassle of long checkout lines and the traffic to get there and back. I agree - if people would stay home Thanksgiving Day, the stores would be closed. I remember when even gas stations and food stores were closed on major holidays. If you needed either one you would go the day before.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I have a pet sitting business where I go to people's homes and take care of their dogs and cats so I am plenty busy Thanksgiving week anyway. I skip the stores. But I'll look online for sure. Monday too.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
I went to J's this morning to pick up fabric for two pillowcases to send to Cyber Elves.
Two pillowcases that cost me $90.08 to be exact. The cashier consoled me by pointing out that I "saved" $240. gee, I could have "saved" $350 if I had stayed home!
Actually, the lines weren't bad at all. We then ventured across the street to the WalMart Supercenter. Got a few things I needed so that I won't have to step foot in another store until at least Monday, if not later. Again, lots of people, but literally every cash register was manned, so the lines were only one to two people deep.
p.s. J's has all Christmas fabric 75% off - should be online, too, I think.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
My cousin and I went on Black Friday years ago when we were in our early 20s. We got pushed around by so many rude people fighting over things, trying to break into checkout lines and being just nuts. We couldn't even get in anywhere to eat lunch until well after 4 p.m. It was a nightmare and we never did it again.
One of my DILs and the oldest granddaughter go every year REALLY early. They know pretty much what they want and where they are going. I was tempted one year to go with them, but I really didn't want to get up at 3 or 4 am to shop. I probably wouldn't have been able to keep up with them anyway. LOL! I'll probably do some cleaning and put up a tree that day instead!
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
Well I went to Joanns this am and there were all of 4 other people there. managed to get in and out in about an hour. Spent a whole 30.00- I think that's the cheapest I've ever managed to get out there paying.
-
Re: Black Friday - Are you ready?
We went years ago too. It wasn't bad, but then again we had lists, and didn't browse. I used to bring the teenager to stand in line while I shopped for flannel/fleece. By the time I had the stuff he was at the front of the cut line (before they had #s). Then he'd get in line for the checkout while I picked up anything else. I always 'paid' him with some thing he wanted from some where that day.
I hit the 50% off calico sale for the rest of the fabric for Dad's & Hubby's quilts and I'm probably done there. I ordered stuff online last year, and the shipping took F O R (freaking) E V E R.
I wanted some of the material to make a quick gift, but the handling/shipping was so delayed I had to go with another option.
I'll be staying home, unless Hubby has other ideas. He was making noise about wanting to go see a movie.
Ugh. You go. I'll stay.
Maybe the guys can go find a movie they want to see.
I may check out the Audiobook Stand site to see if I can add to my library for cheap! Santa needs something for Momma's stocking too!
