Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Hi
This is an update on my Grandmothers flower garden hexie quilt that I am handpicing.
It has almost come to a complete stop for a while. And I just recently started again.
In feb 2015 I will have been working on this quilt for 2 years.
I am on row 6 out of 10 and this row seam like it is taking for ever to complete.
I have 2 more flowers before this row is done.
How is everyone elses hexie quilts going ? Are you all finished ?
Here is a picture

Annika, I don't have the guts to even attempt a table runner out of hexies! You are getting there. I think you have made great progress on it in the short time of not quite 2 years and there was a break in there too. Bonnie Hunter doesn't even try to predict when the next part of her hexi quilt will be done, let alone when her whole quilt will be done.
Work on this one when you can't work on something else - waiting rooms, watching tv, flying, etc. and before you know it those pieces will become flowers that will become rows. It is absolutely gorgeous and you really need to keep plugging away at it!
I will happily be your cheering section!

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
It should make you feel better to know that Bonnie Hunter has bern working on hers for AGES..., it's what is known as a 'forever" quilt, because it isn 'to meant to be done quickly.... You're doing just fine... I 'very hand pieced regular quilts, so I know hiw slow the work can feel...
But, really, it's all about the process.... Don't give up, or let the slow progress get you down... You're right about where you should be....
Just enjoy the journey...

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
That is absolutely beautiful! The kind of quilt I would LOVE to own but haven't the guts to make. I have never attempted one of these because of all the hand piecing - but mostly because of the hexagons. You are doing an awesome job! Please don't get discouraged and quit on this one. You've come way too far too let it go. I absolutely love this piece.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Annika.. this is a beauty... you can do it.. think of the treasure you will be leaving behind...:)
I never thought much about that until the past few years... when my kids are beginning to find things I've made and say "they'd never part with them... "because "Mum made them".. and that's a lot of stuff!!!! You go girl...
And now you have inspired me to promise myself that after the new year,, I will drag down the funky calico "yo yo" quilt I started (no kidding),,well over 10yrs ago... and always told my DD that this was going to be a Lifelong project,, and when I'm gone,, it will remind her of me... (she laughed at the time),,, but now will get it.. she's 43!!:)

I just drooled on my keyboard! I love it!
I know I don't have the talent for something like that but maybe someday!

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
You are doing a great job. Only 2 years?? At this rate it will only be one more year. I just admire your talent.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
It is lovely. What size hexi is used?

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
It might be sloow progress, but you are WAY ahead of me. And it looks great.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
You may be slow, but you are definitely ahead of me!
I really think this would be a wonderful winter project - those quiet times when you are stuck indoors because of the weather and need some relaxing time when you can just sit and think.
You've made much better progress than I have!!

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
I think this is actually the way to go with hexies: it's a long term project you work at when you feel like it. I started mine last year, and I sew a few hexis now and then. Another of my Work In Slow Progress quilts!
This is the layout I chose, so far I have 54 of the 72 lozange units I need and have started adding the white hexies on two of the sides of each lozange. I expect to enjoy this process at least 1 or 2 more years!

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Annika, I'd say do them when and if you can, the project thus far is beautiful, and it looks like one of those that you can do while watching TV, listening to music, bad weather days, etc, etc. What I keep my crocheting for, and a pattern that once learned or an old one, that no thought is required to it. I call them "busy hands" work. :D

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Well, if you need a few compliments to boost your spirits you have come to the right place!
Annika, your work is beautiful and I never get tired of seeing what you post! Nice Job! Keep up the great work!!!

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
A hand pieced quilt isn't a quick thing. Two years sounds like relatively little, especially if you consider what other projects you have worked on simultaneously!
-
Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
I would not even make a coaster of those things by hand!!! Machine, yes, hand no!!! I think you are doing great....it will get done when it's supposed to be!
-
Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
It's turning out just great! You've made significant progress.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a Beauty! I admire your patience 1" hexies :icon_crazy: (are you kidding me)!?! Lol!

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
I would never have the patience to make something like your hexie quilt. That will be a real treasure when you finally finish it. Remember: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! So, 1 hexie at a time, & it eventually will be done. JCY

Thank you all for all you kind words and good advice
I will not give up. Just right now it is moving slowly and I just have to accept that.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
I've been working on mine since January 2014 and I am hoping to get it finished soon. It's more of a lap quilt but in Christmas materials. It's for me so it doesn't matter which Christmas I get it finished for.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
It looks beautiful. Why not take a break and do a different block for awhile then go back to the hex's. Sometimes just looking at something different helps.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Oh Annika, using 1" hexies I think you've made wonderful progress. Your quilt is going to be beautiful.

Very wise words.
Your quilt will be such a masterpiece, Annika. I inherited the one my Great Grandmother made during the depression, and I am still awed by it.

Re: Slooow progress, Pep talk might be needed!
Yeah!!
I am finally done with row 6 and have begun assembling row 7!
I feel like I am getting things going again with this project!
Thank you so much for all of your kind words and advice!
It has helped a lot!
