What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
Quilt design suggestions needed. So I am going to the best resource I know.... You! I am going to use fabrics with some lovely 4" & 6" paisleys that I would like to feature and not cut up. Do you have a favorite pattern that could show off a beautiful fabric design? It would be great it Jenny has done a tutorial that I could follow. I've been going through them all but I thought I would draw on your expertise and what has worked for you.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I love the Double Slice. The slices are large enough that your fabric is not cut into confetti and it's a super simple quilt top to construct. Even a beginner can make a great looking quilt from day one.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I am working on a disappearing nine patch using a colored layer cake and a solid. It is going together really fast and shows off the fabrics.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I am working on the ring quilt. If you use those paisley pieces as the center of the rings, could work maybe.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
This are all great ideas. Thank you! I'll look into them pronto. Keep the ideas coming in! Thanks :icon_wave:

My favorite quilt that I made from layers cakes was the Big Star quilt.

I like that one too Shirley, but this daughter in law is probably not the right fit for it. Thanks :-)

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
That double slice looks like it might be the right one for this fabric. Has anyone made it?

That happens to me too and the person I made this for totally surprised me. I thought she would be all about bright colors and modern but when she told me she liked burgundy, green and blue and traditional quilts I almost fainted.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I have done several table runners with this pattern and just finished a quilt top for my brother with it. Easy and fast pattern to do, best of all, no matching seams! The one I just did for my brother was from some kind of wild fabric, so I toned it down by sashing it.

I was wondering about sashing it....hmmmm good to know you did it. After I get the blocks made I could set it up with sashing and check that out. Thank you!

This darling daughter in law is from Germany and loves paisleys but really isn't into Americana. I was excited to find the paisleys, now to just show case them. Sure appreciate your input.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I loved making the double slice. I ended up donating the top because it wasn't going to work for a kid and I messed up the placement. This is a good one. I have to skip through some of it.

I've made two them. The fabric really shows off .nicely. there is a group for Double Slice on the forum. You could see pics of them. Also my album has a pic of my music one.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
Another idea is the large tumbler - I made one and it was so fast and easy and really shows off the fabric. Jenny did a tutorial on it too I think.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
Funny that I just recently bought some paisley fabric that I love and have been trying to figure out what to do with it. I think I may do a Warm Wishes quilt with it. Good luck with your pattern quest.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I have a large print to deal with too -- for my husband -- he loves a fabulous bird print from Charley Harper but to preserve the print the pieces are going to have to be big! Loving the ideas.

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
I'm currently working on a Geese In The Garden quilt from a MSQC layer cake-the pattern was from EB, it's going to be my first (a lot of) white background with a lot of great quilting!

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
Lagoon is another MSQC i purchased and I am thinking about the Irish Chain next...not sure, the fabric is sweet pastels. Thanks MSQC!

Re: What is your favorite layer cake tutorial?.
could we get a photo of the fabulous bird print? I'm looking for a beautiful large bird for a center piece on a quilt project. Haven't found one yet so it might wind up not being a bird! thx.

Bird prints here! Charley Harper for Birch Fabrics Organic
It's the upside downside he particularly likes. It is gorgeous.
There's a new collection too which has one more birds -- tempting.
It's organic cotton & pricey but they have sales sometimes.

She suggested this for me when I needed to make a star wars quilt. It worked out perfectly! I used the black fabric with stars as the shadow. It really is a great idea.

I have a Skater's Village layer cake that I didn't know what to do with. There are several pieces that cannot be cut up, so maybe that shadow quilt pattern would work out for that line. Thank you to whoever posted that one!
