I know I'm not the OP, but thank you, thank you, thank you for this. I have some beautiful fabrics that I wanted to be able to highlight, without cutting up too much, and had no idea what to do since I'm so new at this.
The various shadow box quilts are perfect! And something I think I can do.

She suggested this for me when I needed to make a star wars quilt. It worked out perfectly! I used the black fabric with stars as the shadow. It really is a great idea.

I have a Skater's Village layer cake that I didn't know what to do with. There are several pieces that cannot be cut up, so maybe that shadow quilt pattern would work out for that line. Thank you to whoever posted that one!
