The Exalted Goddess of Binding!
I have elevated Bernice to the new title of Exalted Goddess of Binding!
Bernice worked with me to put the binding on a baby quilt I was working on.
Attachment 88071
It was a test of her patience. But I got the binding on and it looks "Almost" like someone knew what he was doing. And at the point of putting the two ends together she showed me her "Magic Thumbs"!

Love your quilt! I'm glad you were able to get the help you needed. What are these "Magic Thumbs" you speak of? Is it a new technique?

That is an awesome quilt!!! I want to meet Bernice and I want to know what the 'magic thumbs' technique is!
Also, so happy you are taking the time to share bits of your time there in Hamilton. Those of us who couldn't go but wish we could be there, are living vicariously through all of you.

Re: The Exalted Goddess of Binding!
Bernice (Jean Sewing Machine) has to be an angel, she had the patience to teach me how to put a binding on properly. I used my walking foot and it is sooooo much easier!!!!!

Re: The Exalted Goddess of Binding!
Hope she's around next weekend when I come to MSQC - I have a problem quilt. If not I'll just PM her - she's helped me out before. She must know everything!

I have had trouble with Bernice's name this week. I have called her Jean, Betty, Susie Ann, Doris and such. I think I finally got the Bernice down and I used the wrong screen name. She is Stitching Woman, not Jean Sewing Machine.
I'm just a mere dumb man, I'm sorry Bernice.

Blondie,
You have seen movies with vampires? You know the good guy pulls out a cross and the vampire cringes and throws up his arm to shield himself from seeing the cross. Well, Bernice said she would help me put the binding on. I being the excitable newbie that I am, pulled out Jenny's binding tool and Bernice turned pale and pulled back from me and held her hand out to keep the offending tool away from herself. She said it was the only tool that had ever brought her to tears.
So I'm putting the binding on (Bernice is a great teacher, she showed me what to do then sat there and encouraged me to do it myself). When I got the binding on and it was time to connect both ends Bernice took the quilt and showed me how to "Measure where to cut the excess binding off." She took her thumbs and kind of moved them a couple of times and said this where you cut. Then she had me do it and the binding came out perfect. I had to ask her to do her thumb magic a couple of times but I think I can do it now.
I really think Bernice should do a tutorial on binding for the on-line tutorials.
And I had to laugh, Bernice told me that Jenny requires all machine bindings to be attached to the front of the quilt using a zig-zag stitch, so it looks decorative instead of just attaching the binding. When Jenny looked my binding over, the second thing out of her mouth was "If you use a zig-zag stitch it makes it decorative instead of just a seam attaching the binding."

Re: The Exalted Goddess of Binding!
Bob your quilt is great. So not only did you have a great time but instruction from the exalted goddess herself? That my friend, is worth the price of admission!
Hoping I can attend next year.
