Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
I have been using a rotary cutter for many years and have always poo-poo'ed the idea of using a glove. Well, I was cutting strips on Saturday and sliced my left index finger. A trip to the ER and 4 stitches later, I ordered a klutz glove! Doc said the cut was very deep, is near the top knuckle, and I have to keep stitches in for 14 days!!
Be careful with those rotary cutters!!!
By the way, I had considered changing to a new blade prior to that cutting session!!

ouch, did that a couple weeks ago. Cut the side of my index finger off. I just kept putting a splob (technical term) of Neosporin on it and wrapped it with bandaids. Was nothing to stitch back together. All healed up quickly. Neosporin is the bomb!!

Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
I did that a few months ago myself! That rotary cutter hopped up over the edge and bam...right into my finger all the way into my fingernail! Talk about blood....I don't know what was worse, that or the pain. Took us ten minutes to get the bleeding to stop and I wanted to go to the doctor for stitches and he kept saying a bandage would be fine. About five days later he was telling someone about it and admitted we should have gone for stitches...oh well! It was numb for about two months, but that is gone now and I can see the scar, but it's barely visible at all.
I was going to purchase a Klutz glove, but I spoke to a couple different women at quilt shops and they all told me that those gloves won't prevent you from getting cut again, just slow it down. I came across O'Lipfa Safety Shields that you permanently attach to your rulers and I am no longer in fear of ever cutting myself again!! Wish I had known about them a long time ago.
pat.

Yikers! I feel your pain literally! I've forgotten how many stitches I had to get on my finger - all I know is that I suffered nerve damage and it was deep and hurt like .......... I was told that I was lucky that I was using a brand spanking new cuter and blade at the time. It turns out that my favorite ruler had a nick in it which caused my blade to fly. I immediately purchased one of the gloves but find it difficult to use as it is huge on me so I usually don't use it.

Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
I have had a couple of very bad cuts on my fingers-once when I was learning to cut glass for stained glass (sliced into the knuckle of a finger on my left hand) and once when I was trying to repair an outdoor hose and sliced into my thumb. I have grippers on my rulers and also have a klutz glove. Even if it doesn't completely prevent an accident, every little bit helps.

Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
Does that mean you don't have to wash dishes and such for 14 days?

I did not buy one of the klutz gloves because I already have a pair of Kevlar gloves that I use with my mandolin. Yes, I did indeed slice off the end of my ring finger with the mandolin, hence the purchase. So far they have been great, and they come in sizes, so mine fit well. Got them on amazon. Gives you that sick to the stomach feeling when that happens, doesn't it?
