Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
I second Bubba's O'Lipfa Safety Sheilds! After seeing some of the cuts posted here, I followed her lead & bought one of the shields. I absolutely love it! I can cut much faster, plus I seem to be able to put more pressure on the ruler to keep it from moving. Bought mine from Amazon.

Ouch!!!! We all seem to have our 'moment' with our cutters. I hope you heal quickly.
Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
Yes indeed ouch!! I cut the top/side of my index finger, and it bled profusely... actually, it just poured out. Couldn't get it to stop. So reluctantly we went to the ER (10:30 at night) and waited forever. Had 2 opinions, and the consensus was that it would just fall off anyway, so need for stitches. That was upsetting!! But yes indeed, it did 'dry up' and fall off. I still don't have full feeling in the tip of my finger... and it's been over 2 years. Just got careless, because we get so familiar with things. Heads up! Never lose the 'fear' of the sharp blade - my husband still cringes when he sees me cut. Always reminds me to be careful!!
Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
I used to work at a slaughter house in my younger years....and no stranger to bad cuts. As the adage goes, it is better to be cut by a sharp blade than a dull one. Well having experienced both, I can tell you it hurts like blazes no matter what! Remember ladies, safety first....use anything that you are comfortable with to help you avoid a slice! And healing {{hugs}} to our walking wounded. :icon_hug:
Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
ouch! and welcome to the forum :)
Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
I was lucky......my cut area did not dry up and fall off, it all grew back together. I religiously kept it bandaged, neosporined, and even had a splint on it for a couple weeks to protect it.
I agree that when you use the rulers with the O'Lipfa attached you are able to hold it in place better. I need to get them on my smaller rulers still, as it's only on my 24" one right now. The other two just sit there staring at me!

I fly by the seat of my pants. Plus I process fish at work 8 hrs a day, using filet knives the whole time. Wearing latex gloves.
I think I'm very lucky so far. Attachment 87944

Re: Rotary Cutter Boo Boo
Years ago my dear aunt came up with this idea. She used the clear corner guards on her rulers. The type you use on the wall. Something like this Wall Protex U4100SS Universal Adhesive Corner Guard - Wood Moldings And Trims - Amazon.com
She didn't really use them as handles but if the rotary blade jumped it would hit the guard instead of her fingers.
