I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Gosh... As soon as I saw that email this morning about the Birthday Sale... I got so excited! Within minutes I had a cart reaching the $200 mark in no time! I putzed around on it all day, even got Hubby's blessing to order because 80% of it was stuff for gifts. I finally went to hit the "Submit" button but then backed out. I realized I have enough stuff to last a lifetime already and there will be other sales. I deleted my cart and walked away :(.
I REALLY wanted the stuff, but just couldn't do it. I really hope I don't regret it and either change my mind and order the stuff later tonight (if it's still available) or be kicking myself in the butt tomorrow for chickening out.
I just keep telling myself... I must not buy until I finish projects.

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I'm with you, Rosie. I have so much fabric now and several UFOs. I NEED to finish what I've started before I even think of buying something else. Plus, I've placed 2 orders this month already...
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Stay strong Jess! I was on a fabric diet for almost 3 months until the local quilt show. I found that I am not as quick to hit the order button anymore after that. I will admit to ordering today but ordered a lot less that I would have before my "diet".

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I am broke as broke. If they had just waited till Friday, it'd be a different story. Anyway, I wasn't able to buy anything, BUT, I visited my mother and she bought a ton of stuff for a quilt she wants me to make. So I get to have the calendar and I asked her to throw in the DD for me. So basically, I was living vicariously through her. It was almost as satisfying.
I saw that at their RL stores they have thousands of FQ on sale for a dollar. I have got to get there next year. I need to start working on my husband now!!! FQ for a dollar! If I spent a few hundred dollars, I would have enough fabric for a year.

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
No regrets here, I did the same thing. Right now I still have fabric for at least 7-8 BIG PROJECTS. I have come to realize that there will always be another sale and another fabric I can't live without. :) but it's still fun to window shop
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Good for you Rosie. You are now my role model. Stay strong.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I was sorely tempted too. But like you, Jess/Rosie, I have fabric for at least four projects that I haven't even started yet! I really think it will be best for me to finish some of them & see what I'm interested in working on then, not now. But it was one of those blue days & a little fabric retail therapy was so appealing. So I have had to be very, very good to resist this sale.

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Nothing for me either! I have been just window shopping since last week! It is really hard with all this gorgeous fabric that has been coming out lately!!! :(
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
So proud of you girls. I was tempted too,but then I have enough and plenty of UFO's , Truthfully, what really cinched it for me is my machine is down:icon_sniff:so I might not have been so smug . I don't when it will be fixed, I have another one in the basement, a nice little portable but I do think something is wrong with that one also. I was going to ask Santa for a new one this year. Have to see if he has room on his sled.:icon_question:

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I put the DD in my cart this morning but got busy away from the house and it sold out. I often put the DD in my cart, then wait to decide to order. Many times I don't finish the order. I ran an errand for DH today that took me to the nearest town with a Joann's so I used my coupon and VIP card to buy top-stitch needles and glass-headed pins...two items I really did need.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I, for once, also behaved. I put the batik layer cake in my shopping basket last night and lo and behold, it was sold out this morning!!! Like I needed it anyway. I have enough jelly rolls, and almost enough layer cakes to last three people a lifetime!

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Proud of you Rosie! I too had a bunch of items in my cart.
Then I thought, "how much more do you need, and why don't you
use up what you have?" (a lot!), so I too, deleted my items.
Tempting........

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Good for you, Rosie, it really is so tempting - I do great for a while - then I see something I just cannot live with out and I hit the "buy" button. Right now I am trying to clean up my sewing room and I have so much fabric - its crazy - I am still waiting for a couple of orders I placed in the last week - Ugh!!! its so hard sometimes - I just wish I had more hands so I could work on multiple projects at once. I also keep telling myself that another good deal will come along - I don't have to buy everything all at once. It sounds like you already have projects planned so at least you can keep busy. I am already thinking that I will be behind for Christmas if I don't start soon.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I also am trying to finish projects that I have planned and have fabric for. Only once in awhile I pick up something, mostly to add onto these projects. Its a tough battle.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I am proud of myself for resisting this time. I am happy for everyone who got the good deals.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Rosie, and other, I totally agree. I have plenty and there will be plenty for,us to buy later. And I figure lots,of thing will come that we will really love and be happy we have not purchased in a while. The only thing I get now is yardage on the big sales with Fat Quarter Shop. I wish Missouri Star would do yardage in their sales. But I do get it, they are more about te precuts. I need yardage to go with all my precuts and for borders and backing. I do like the prices they have on their solids so I might pick up the dauly deal once in a while and grab yardage at the same time. Those purchases will be few though.

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I've been looking at the Stonehenge Everest for a while so I did the dastardly deed. :-)
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
No regrets here, as well. I have so many projects planned and feature fabrics purchased. I put a stop to all new project purchases because I will still need to get batting and backing fabrics for some of my projects. Until I get more caught up with my big plans, I need to just stop the madness. Of course it didn't stop me from browsing the birthday sale items....

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
If I'd had time to order, I would have bought the rotary cutting blades. But I was under a time crunch this a.m. to get somewhere. By the time I got home it was sold out. Sometimes Hancock's has the blades on sale for 50% off. I'm not out yet. I probably have more fabric than I'll ever use in my lifetime, so I really shouldn't be buying any more. There's a quilt show this Fri. I'll try to be self-disciplined! JCY

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Well, I tried to resist but got the flannel layer cake and the Alpine layer cake to make my hubby's quilt bigger. I also grabbed a few tea towels, for aprons and some twill tape for pennants!
Waited all day with it in the cart....pushed checkout, hubby said I am on a fabric restriction till the end of the year!!!
I am sure I can sneak a little past if I "need" some!
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Way to go Rosie!! I didn't even look, finished my current quilt instead :)

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I'm in the same boat, Rosie. I'm trying really hard not to buy anything new and just work with my stash. It's not always easy and sometimes I have to purchase a little extra but I try hard to avoid it. I've done the same thing. I'll put stuff in my cart and then delete it. Sometimes I think it's good to just walk away from it for a day and then go back to the cart and decide if it's really worth it to make the purchase.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I did the same thing Jess - I filled up my cart and then later deleted it all. I have enough fabric for dozens of projects, but it was soooooo darn tempting LOL
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Thank you all!! Hearing how you all are using self-discipline is really helping me; I have enough to last many lifetimes, but you know there's 'just that one print' that you can't seem to live without... sure do appreciate reading all you disciplined ladies! It truly helps me in my time of weakness!! :icon_wave:

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I have a $200 cart sitting there, can't seem to find the delete button.......or the money.
-
Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I'm not going to lie.... I put everything back in a cart this morning. Didn't hit the submit button though :( Turns out, had I have ordered yesterday, I would have saved about $17. Now with stuff back to full-price... I really can't justify the purchase, so I guess it just wasn't meant to be.
On a positive side, I'm wrapping up one project tonight, whipping up a small one between tonight and tomorrow, and then I'll have two projects off the massive (38!) list of projects to do! I must not add three more projects to the list in their place.... Lol.

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
Well I will admit to being the weak-kneed wimp of the crowd.....I needed the blades and you all know what happens next, you browse. Some of that fabric even called out my name.....well, I couldn't be rude and ignore those pleas for a new home, could I?? My name is Sandy and I am a fabric-aholic. :0

Re: I Was A Good Girl (I Think...)
I find this strength most of the time because I'm in the same boat. I have enough fabric in this house to last me for some time. However, we went back home to Pgh for a wedding. I am the ultimate Pittsburgh Penguin fan - I love my hockey. Well the Pens were formed back in 1967 and only once did they make Pgh Penguin fabric and it was pulled immediately due to copy right issues. Well of course I had to 'look' at the fabric while in Pgh because you just never know lol. Low and behold Pgh Penguin fabric!!! I was so dang excited. Two different cotton prints, a flannel print and a fleece. With no hesitation I grabbed it all! I actually wanted to purchase the full bolts but they said only 10 yards per print :( So of course I purchased 10 yards of each print and went to the next store and purchased 10 yards of each print again lol. Me oh my - I wasn't so good that day. 80 yards of material in one day. Because of that I didn't stop at the fabric outlet in the mountains on the way home so I guess that was good :D

Oh, believe me.... I've shopped here enough over the past few months to throw quite a few bucks their way! Lol. The thought of adding up what I've spent over the past 3 months scares me to death... I think I might have a heart attack if I knew the actual dollar amount. Lol.
Hopefully, when the next big sale rolls around, I'll have made a dent in my already rather large stash to where I can stock up again :D

Me too! Hoping to make good progress this weekend. Shopping for fabric is so fun but I enjoy it even more if its clear I'm using what I have, not just accumulating a SABLE!
