Clover Desk Needle Threader

After reading some of the comments, I couldn't help but wonder: why is that for some people the needle threader works all the time and for others it's a bust. Mine was working great . . . until recently. What was different? The Needles. I grabbed a package of needles at the dreaded local fabric store (please someone open a decent quilt shop near me) and went home to start on a project that has a lot of hand sewing. I wanted to scream. It threaded the first needle and then . . . zip, nada, nothing. Then I got my old package of needles out. They were Clover gold eye #10. The threader worked the first time and every other time. Hmmmm, I think I see a pattern here. Clover threader works best with clover needles.

So, if you have a threader and it's not working, grab a package of clover needles. It is sure making this hand sewing project go so much faster and easier.

Bernice the master hand sewist says they work only with needles with round eyes. She uses the tiniest size 11 needle to hand sew with, and she uses her Clover needle threader all the time.

Is 10 smaller than 11? I don't know much about needles, except they are sharp and tend to prick my fingers at times. :)

That should read oval eyed needles the round eyed needles just don't seem to work. I use either Clover or John James needles.

No 11 is smaller than the 10.

I used to do a lot of counted cross stitch when I was in my 20's, and never had a problem threading the needles. I could just wrap the thread around the needle and then push it through the eye (it was usually a double or even triple ply of embroidery floss.) Now I'm 30 years older, and trying to thread that tiny thread into that tiny needle eye is so difficult. I use my reading glasses to poke the thread through the eye (sometimes I wet the needled eye end with my mouth!) and the thread has a better chance of going through. The doubled over thread trick never works on these tiny needles! I am thinking a needle threading device might be a good idea when I am hand stitching the binding.

I have had that threader for quite awhile. I use number 11 needles for binding and the threader works great with Aurifil but does not work when using the same needle with Connecting threads in the small side of the threader. It must be the difference in thread diameter. It is hard to see, but the small needle holder has "silk" stamped in the plastic and the large needle holder has "cotton" stamped under it. Something to keep in mind if you have any problems. My case has started to come apart also. I haven't tried to glue it back yet since it still works as long as I remember to squeeze it together once in awhile.

I should have said I am talking about the Bohin threader.

I bought two and am very disappointed. I even asked MSQC which needles to use and ordered them. Grrr still doesn't work half the time. I have tried so many times that I broke the thread.
