Yes, the Ultimate Binding tute by Jenny is what I use as well. I just overlap the 2 1/2 inches (or however wide your binding is before folding it) and join it together - lays flat every time

I have also done this. I unsewed the beginning strip enough to work with and added more binding. Sometimes I have even joined the strips without the angle cut just a straight cut/seam. Whatever works.

I have found that If I get to congratulating myself too soon, Murphy's law goes into affect. Like with my oldest son's asian quilt. It turned out to be a nightmare to quilt. I totally felt like I had ruined the quilt with my quilting. It shifted like crazy. Washing a quilt afterwards really helps disguise errors!

No wrong way to correct errors. Good thing is if the person quilts or not they will think you did this on purpose. Thinking outside the box, LOL

Personally, I don't like the binding tool. I've made more mistakes with it than I care to count. It's useless to me. I don't want to have to watch a video every time I use it! I know it won't help right now, but keep these videos in mind for next time. There are quite a few easy methods of joining the binding with no tools and little measuring.

I too, use the first method, but the second one looks very interesting and I think I'll give it a try! Thanks for sharing.
What a wonderful and creative way to fix your oopsie!

You're not a 'newbie'... you're a "Genius"!!! How clever... Bet it looks great, and what a fantastic coverup! I always say there are no mistakes - just opportunities to show your creative artistic skills! We're artists, and if anything goes 'awry', it's just another opportunity! And besides... as one of my students told me when she was making 'mistakes', "oh well, it's Amish!" I had to ask what she meant, and she said the Amish have a saying (and must make sure they have at least one mistake in each of their quilts) that "only God is perfect"... so their quilts MUST reflect at least one mistake! I kinda' liked that reasoning...

I don't think I would have come up with such a clever solution! I would have been "ripping" and saying bad words! I too use the overlap the width of binding technique with consistent success....
Quilts may come, and quilts may go, but the stitches stay the same.
