Shame on me. I shouldn't go into a quilting or sewing machine store unsupervised.
The sewing machine dealer I like to trade with had a Janome Memory Craft 8000 and offered me a pretty good price for it. I was supposed to pick it up today. I went to the dealership unsupervised, can we say BAD IDEA BOB!
He showed me a Bernina Deco 300. Both are used machines. He told me the Bernina is a 15-20 year newer machine. He showed me how easy it was to touch the screen and get what a I want the machine to embroider. He showed me that it would take much bigger hoops, and such.
Then he made me an offer that was just too good to pass by. He said he wanted to see me have the better machine. He said since I had already bought two machines from him in the last year he would make a deal for me.
He threw in $100 (retail price of embroidery thread), the bigger hoop, a box of extra bobbins and free classes to learn about it.
I just had to bring it home. I'm a bad Bob! But I'm hoping to be a Bob having fun!

LOL, wasn't meant that way. Might as well enjoy it while you got it. Was more thinking along the lines of "Why should my kid get what I have, I should spend it if I want to."

Karen,
I was hoping that is what you meant. I remind people that I have never seen a hearse with luggage racks. I don't know how much I will use this embroidery machine, but I have wanted one to play with.
I have it in my mind to recreate a quilt that my great grandmother made many many years ago. It is a baby quilt. It is embroidered on the nine blocks. I think I will bring it to the retreat to see if anyone thinks it can be recreated.

Bob, Thank you for doing your bit to support the economy. We all need to shop and buy to support the American dream.
Hope you enjoy you new machine.

Re: Shame on me. I shouldn't go into a quilting or sewing machine store unsupervised.
Bob, hope you are having fun...my DH was with me at Joann's 2 weeks ago and asked if I wanted the machine on sale. Saleslady lit up instantly, but I kept a cool head and said no I didn't want to make car payments again. LOL. His next question was did I want a longarm machine. I almost fainted. He then told me I could do quilts and sell them so he could retire.
Bad idea for him to go shopping with me. Karen, he says we should spend our children's inheritance while we have it.

Cathy,
I see you are from Patchogue, Long Island. My brother and sister-in-law lived in Oakdale for many years and lived for a few years in Blue Point. He taught at Sayville High School. They lived in the Colony, the farm area of one of the old Vanderbilt Estates. They sold and moved to Brooklyn. They had always wanted to live in the city, so when they retired they made the move. You live in a beautiful area of the world. I want to make a trip back out sometime and hopefully make a trip back out on the island.

Good for you BOB!! We should all do our part for the economy!!
I have an embroidery machine, new to me, but haven't gotten into using it yet! I need some tuts from the previous owner but our schedules just haven't gotten together yet!
My hope is that I can use it to quilt the sandwich! Especially in the blank spaces!
Good luck!!

Re: Shame on me. I shouldn't go into a quilting or sewing machine store unsupervised.
:icon_giggle: I am secretly glad that you did this. You will have fun with this. For a while in my life I felt like I was the only one that ever got sent to the corner, and now I can smile knowing somebody else did something to get them into the corner and it is not me. I hope you have fun with your new toy.

Re: Shame on me. I shouldn't go into a quilting or sewing machine store unsupervised.
Bob, Bob, Bob you fell into the trap. I use my embroidery feature on my machine to put dates and name my quilts. You will use it, but after awhile the changing out of parts will get old. I went back to using label (bought 200) I had made and permanent marker for names. I know over time the marker although permanent will fade I have to do something with all the labels I bought. Take a friend/family next time. Although that don't always work, because sometime they give better sale pitches then dealers. I.E my older sister is horrible at not convincing me to not buy something.
