    Default Starting a new quilt

I spent a lot of time this past weekend not sewing just thinking about it and the projects for my nieces and nephews I want to finish for Christmas. Last night I couldn't get a dear friend and her husband out of my mind, he has been in hospital in the cardiac care unit with heart complications from a bacterial blood infection. All night while watching tv with my hubby I couldn't stop thinking that my friend needed a quilt and I was browsing around looking at patterns. This morning I woke up and checked facebook like I always do. I was devastated to read that my friend's husband died late last night/early this morning. I did not get a chance to meet my friend's husband, but I have worked closely with her as a volunteer for a national organization, often long distance but we've met in person several times.

I got everything cut today for this quilt Quilty Magazine that I will make for my friend and her two children, 13 yr old twins. They live across the country, it's the best hugs that I can give them.

It's a beautiful quilt that would definitely wrap your friend with the hug you know she needs.

Oh dear. Those are both the best, and the worst circumstances to quilt under. It's good to have a real mission, but it would be so much better to be giving him the quilt than needing to comfort his family with it. I'm sorry for your loss, and may your stitches be guided by his love for them.

Thanks Gina - it is really my friend's loss. I didn't get the privilege of meeting her husband (I edited my original post to say so). I'm just so sad for her and her kids. Her son has muscular dystrophy.

Sounds like you might have a closer bond with your friend than you were aware of.
I'm sure she'll need that quilt to wrap up in when she is going through this time.
