I am so stupid!
One and a half year ago I bought a serger. It came with black threads in it and I wanted white so I directly pulled the threads out and put the new ones in. Of course without properly reading the manual first. I then sewed a dress for my niece and the seams just weren't tight enough and kept opening up. I re-threaded the machine countless times, played with the tension and I never managed to get it right. So I put it away and it sat on a shelf for almost a year.
A while ago I took the free Craftsy class 'Beginner serging' and the instructor told the students to pull at the threads to get them between the tension discs. I did that and you wouldn't believe it, it sews like a dream and my seams are all perfect now! I am so stupid... LOL Thank you, Craftsy!

No you're not stupid, just inexperienced. There's a BIG difference. Glad you figured it out. Have you also discovered how to change the thread without having to rethread the machine by hand? If not, there are tutorials on how to do it. Just a matter of tying on to the threads already on the machine and pulling them through. All you have to do is rethread the needles.

Re: I am so stupid!
My GF taught me the trick of tying on the new thread and it made it sooooo easy! I don't do a lot with my serger yet. Still too new but I see it as a blessing to serge my fabrics before I wash them. Makes a BIG difference with those raw edges!!

My friends hear the song in my heart, and sing it to me when my memory fails.

Not stupid at all!! Sergers are not the easiest machines to use but with practice I have somewhat mastered mine. Just keep at it!

Oh Andrea, Don't put yourself down as we all try to do things the 'quick' way and read the directions or get advice after making many mistakes. In fact I think you are smart because you took the Crafty class to improve your serger skills. Have fun making thing with your serger.

Andrea, don't feel bad............though not owning a serger, I made the same exact mistake with the Brother, those tension discs were the issue..............so if there is a "dumb" club, I'm right there with ya! LOL! Just glad you got up and running! YAY!
Don't worry if plan A fails, there are 25 more letters in the alphabet!!

Thank you for your kind words. I really need to be more patient and not just jump in and get information later I guess. I have heard about that "tying the threads together" method, of course afterwards. Next time I will do it that way. Although I have threaded this machine so often that I can almost do it in the middle of the night when I just woke up
