    Default Question; Does size matter???

Now that I have your attention

Hubby and I had a conversation this morning. He says all quilts I make should be queen sized, they should all be able to fit on a bed. We have 5 queen sized beds on our house, and he says that way I could switch them all out and around when and where I want them. Any quilt I make should be able to fit a bed!!

    but

I like smaller, about 70x70 type things, I like to take to odd nap, that size is perfect. I like to sit and watch tv or read on the couch, that size is perfect. I like to take a quilt with my when we travel or go for a drive, cause I hate AC, that size is perfect for that!!

So my question is, what size of quilt do you tend to make, what is your "go-to" size??

I used to be of the opinion that quilts should fit a bed - twin, double, queen or king
Except for baby quilts - no wider than the WOF

So the only addition to my belief are lap quilts, which in my opinion is anything between the above two categories.
Table Mats, Table Runners, Pot Holders are a different category altogether.

And wall quilts' sizes - hmmm - now that is a trick question. Isn't it?

I like the throw size.........sizes that are good for covering up while watching tv or reading. They don't all have to go on the bed.

If it's for you it's whatever size you want!!! Queens are nice for the beds too but too big for snuggle time.

If they are bed size, you will always be able to have them in use. But how many throws can you really use? I like to make them bed size.

I do agree there, I already have about 4 hanging on my quilt ladder, so how many more do I need. But a bed size like he aid I can switch them out

Most of the quilts I make are baby quilts. I usually make them no wider than ~39" so I can use the WOF for the backing w/o piecing. I can squeak by if there's only ~1.5" to 2" on each side. I make the backing at least 6" longer than the length. After quilting, I save the wider fabric strips for future projects, either piecing or strips for strip quilts. I save the strips of batting as well. They can be cut into smaller pieces for stuffing small pillows or other sewing projects. Wider batting strips I piece for my practice sandwiches. Very little goes to waste at my house.

If I'm going to make a bed sized quilt, it will be the dimensions necessary for whatever bed I'm making it for with at least 10" or more over-hang. I have plans to make a queen size for my bed. It will be plenty wide & long to allow for draping on the sides & end of bed b/c it will be the "bedspread." I use fleece throws for my lap blankets when I watch TV, etc. JCY

I just make baby and lap sizes, it's a fun size to make. If I ever make a queen it will be for my dd's. I don't need one, I have so many comforters and blankets.

I don't usually make mine bed sized. They're mostly gifts and they turn out to be whatever size I choose at the time, usually between an lap and twin size. That being said, I have a few UFOs for myself that will be bed sized. Seems like the quilts for me tend to get pushed to the bottom of the list, hence the UFOs.
