Has anyone made one? My son's bag finally bit the dust and I can not find another like it. So I thought of making one.
Here are my questions - is there some sort of waterproof material out there that is easy to work with? And is insul bright good a good material to use to insulate the bag?
I bought a pattern on Craftsy for one but haven't made it yet. It calls for Insulbrite in the bag.
The only waterproof fabric I can think of is the laminated cottons, or maybe oilcloth.
I made a tote for a friend from FL to take pizzas back. She has the local pizza pub make the pizzas and freeze them for travel. I used insulbrite to line the bag (placed with the insulbrite side facing the inside of the bag to reflect heat/cold).
I found raincloth fabric at Joann's. It's thin, but waterproof and reasonably priced. You can't put pins in the raincloth, other than in the seam margins, but it worked well and can be washed quickly with a quick swipe of a cloth. Of course, laminated or oilcloth is good too, as Karen mentioned.
There is the fabric called PUL that many people use for baby diaper covers - it comes in many different colors and easy to sew - you can find it at Joanns too.
I have made a few. You can get laminate that is water proof. I did mine in cotton with cotton lining and insulbrite for batting.
I've been looking for laminated cotton online. Not many places carry it so I'll probably have to go through Amazon. I did find a heat and bond that made fabric waterproof, but it had mixed reviews. Anyone use that?

Joann's has some laminated cotton sometimes where they have the quilting precuts. It seems to be hit and miss on when they have it though.
Another vote for the PUL. My local fabric store has a wide selection in kid prints, but also solid colors. I've also seen pre-cut pieces of it at Walmart.
Hahaha I just pulled up some PUL fabric on Amazon for my son to look at. He shook his head and walked away. Then yelled "Duckies!"
No, won't be using the ducks, but I did see the solid colors. Thanks for the advice on this one. It never would have crossed my mind.
