Default Want to swap some scraps for....

I have been saving my scraps for 2 years now. I continue to think I will do something with them, even tho I am not a scrappy quilt person. I don't care for the look of so many colors and shapes all together like that. Just my personal preference. I made a goal for myself first of this year that I was going to get out of my over organizer/always symetrical box and make a scrappy quilt...somehow, some pattern. I keep thinking I will give it a try and all, but I don't. Well, here it is September and I have to admit....defeat. Ain't gonna happen!

So I have a ton of scraps, and have to admit to myself, I am not going to use them. So...anyone want to swap scraps for yardage or fat quarters? (all are 100% cotton, pre washed, Kona and Legacy Studio solids, Calico Keepsakes and Legacy Studio prints all purchased at Joann's Craft Store) The scraps are anywhere from 2" or more wide strips(of different lengths) to probably 10x10" or so pieces. Also alot of already cut squares...3x3, 4x4, 5x5 inches. And even some assembled HSTs of same size.

If interested, PM me and I'll get you pictures. I am in California.

You've never made a scrappy quilt????? Heavens! Try the rail fence pattern....super easy and I think they look great scrappy. Don't over-think your fabric placement. Just be sure there is enough contrast between side-by-side fabrics. And if it turns out that you don't like it....I am sure there are dozens of folks on this forum that would be only too happy to take it off your hands. What have you got to loose...only your time.
I personally have all the scraps that I can deal with. I often take them to guild meetings and give them away.

Oh, my ~ so many beautiful quilts can be made from scraps! I have enough scraps of my own. Plus I wouldn't want to mix pre-washed fabrics with unwashed. (I don't pre-wash anything.) I like to use scraps in the string quilts using the 10" papers M*QC sells. I mostly use 2.5" strips left over from bindings. Is there a local guild or a sewing group in your area? I'm sure they'd be glad to get them. We have an Interfaith Quilters group in my town. They have a big sale once a year. Proceeds benefit two local organizations. I'm sure someone will want them. JCY

Thanks mpattylou...I know it is me. I am plagued with symetry and 'matching' and equalness! I know if I put lot of colors together, there'd be one brighter color than the others and that would scream at me...."NOT EQUAL" and "DOESN'T MATCH" and drive me insane! I have a postage stamp top in progress,,, but even with that, I had to add white sqs in between the color/print sqs. And it is still a WIP (3 years now!) because just knowing all those colors and sqs and so many of them, and nothing matching!!! I shiver just imagining it!

JCY - I bought those papers from M* too... intending to use these scraps and make blocks and such. I did make sew some strip pieces on them and then cut to make a diagonal pattern and made some pillows...but...all the fabric matched! Scrappy quilts are just to busy for me and look to cluttered...my opinion ONLY. I have seen a few that I thought were nice, but I guess that is as far as it is going to go with me!

I understand your feelings about scrappy quilts. I love the look of them, but to put them together...YIKES! I, too, struggle with matching and symmetry and everything being equal in color brightness. I have way too many scraps and pieces to not use them and on more than one occasion, having scraps and stash has saved my tush! I struggle with precuts because they are hard to organize equally. I love the look of all the mix of colors, but I always try to match up fabric patterns and colors and have some type of order. I just can't grab the next one in the basket and sew it down!!! That would be too chaotic for me!

That sounds like me, too. I like things orderly and matched. I don't want the same fabric touching in the next block, etc. Maybe we're just a bit OCD? Oh well, to each his own. JCY

There are two M* tutorials of quilts that use scraps against a lot of background fabric so that I feel they don't relly look that really scrappy. DH is OCD diagnosed and even him approves of the patterns!
They are the Irish Chain and the Silly Goose quilts.

lourixe... I like the Irish Chain one.. .might give that a try next time I buy fabric Might be cool to use white with same tone one color.. but it won't work with my scraps. I already have one similar construction as a WIP and dread continuing working on it!
