Info for thread
I am just beginning quilting with my domestic sewing machine. Which is the best thread to buy?

Re: Info for thread
Lots of controversy on this one! Some people swear by 100% cotton, but others think a polyester blend is just fine. I guess I think you don't want something very cheap that will break, but as long as it is a reputable brand it probably doesn't matter. My local quilt store swears by 100% cotton Presencia or Mettler for piecing, but say you can use anything for quilting.
The best thread for you might depend on your machine too -- some people think their machines do better with some brands than others.

Re: Info for thread
I have always used Mettler 50 wt., but recently I have tried some other brands that people recommend. I really like Masterpiece from Superior Threads for piecing. I also really like Aurifil thread for piecing. I think both of these seem to be finer threads than Mettler. You can get more on the bobbin. Any of these three threads would do nicely for you I think. Just buy a spool of some different threads and try them out. You can make the choice that is best for you.

I use Aurifill for piecing. Then I use connecting threads essential collection for quilting. I would love to use Aurifill for everything, but it is just too expensive.

Re: Info for thread
I have used connecting threads for both quilting and piecing for many years and have no trouble with my Janome. You have to clean out the lint but I do that maintenance after every project anyway! Remember to vacuum it out! Not blow it out!

My friends hear the song in my heart, and sing it to me when my memory fails.

50 weight for piecing, 35 or 40 weight for quilting
Sylvia told me to use 60 weight (very thin) for stitch in the ditch - greater accuracy.

That's great advice! I see some thread shopping in my near future! *sigh*

I think this depends on your machine, I have lots, Mettler, Guiterman, Aurifil, Wonderfil, Superior.... the list goes on, my machine seems to prefer the Superior for FMQ so that is what I stick with

I use Connecting Threads or buy locally with a coupon or when it's on sale. I prefer cotton but have used poly a few times. You need to try a few and see what you and your machine like best.
