Does this seem way out of line to you?
Yesterday I received a sewing catalog from Home Sew. On their second page they show a dozen FAT QUARTER bundles - but list them at 18" x 10" precuts. When did things change so 18" x 10" can be considered a fat quarter? And, the bundles have varying number of pieces from 7 to 15 pieces with prices running from $25.95 for 7 pieces to $49.95 for 15 pieces. No mention of manufacturer either.
I hope no sane person falls for these (unless I have missed the fine print that says they are made with solid gold).
What say you? Think this is an honest typo?
Be warned. I am BORED.
This could be dangerous.
When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
They are usually 90 degrees.
A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

I'd call or email and ask. If it's not a typo, then, in my opinion, they are being deceptive in calling them FQ. If it was an honest typo, then at least you'll know and can still respect them as a company.

Wow, I just went to their web site and it's the same. I'm so glad i know what size it should be. I just bought a bundle for the night sky group. Good thing you brought this up, I don't buy them so I could of been duped if I didn't know.

Sounds like some one in their printing division does know what a fat quarter is. I'd call them and clarify what is going on. It reminds me of the charmin toilet paper commercial. It had a group of women sitting around knitting and they were talking about charmin's quilted softness. I guess no one in the advertising department knew the difference between quilting and knitting. Always made me laugh. Eventually they changed the commercial to show a group if women actually quilting around a large quilting frame. Some must have clued them in. Ha!

That's the size of a fat eighth, instead of a fat quarter. It could be an honest typo, being a sewing company I'd assume the people in charge know the difference between a fat eighth and a fat quarter?
I looked for fat eight bundles once to go with a pretty pattern, but they had many more than 7 pieces!

It is closer to the size of a fat eighth, but waaaayyyyyy over priced for fat quarters, let alone fat eighths! Seven FQ for $26 would equal nearly $15 a yard - or $30 yard for eighths.

I just looked at their website and it's listed the same way....18" x 10" "Fat Quarters"
Cotton + Steel Fat Quarters
Could be a typo on either the size or the name... who knows. I would definitely be calling them for clarification before ordering.

A short quarter?
I expect a fat quarter to measure 18" (half a yard) x 22" (half the WOF). I get a bit huffy at the 20" listed on some of them.
Personally, I have become spoiled by M*. When I buy pre-cuts I go here. They have done all of the work with the fabric companies to get them to standardize their counts in charm packs, J-rolls, etc. Granted there are things they can't control, like the accuracy of the manufacturer's cuts, but I'd still rather buy here.
If I saw that in a catalog, I'd shy away from it. If it was a fabric I couldn't live without, then I'd call before I placed an order. If it were truly cut that way, I'd probably ask to speak to a "person of authority" and explain why they are false advertising.
At that size, they could be getting 4 cuts from a WOF x 18". Nice mark up if you can get someone to buy it!

I had never heard of this place before. I went to look and further on saw this description for fat quarters!!
This is a gorgeous selection of tapestry fabrics. Each bundle contains 4 to 10 pieces, each at least 12" x 12". (Although the number of pieces vary, you get approx. the same amount of fabric in each bundle) Some of these fabrics sell for up to $40 per yard, so this is a really good bargain. Assortments vary, order more than 1 for greater variety.
Each at least 12 x 12????
pat.
No rain....no rainbows!
