Well, thank you and now I will be doing some shopping tonight for sure!!!!!!
Actually she said all manufacturers do that. Occasionally they will re run one but very rarely.
Wonder what amount of fabric constitutes a run?
Not enough!
Thanks.... Moda is my favorite...MIT seems to me that almost every time I love a fabric, it turns out to be made by Moda...
My quilt guild had a designer who works with MODA come for a special program a couple months ago. The minimum on an initial run of fabric is 3000 yards up to 8000. There are a few manufacturers who will do reruns, but not many. In those cases they will run a minimum of 1000 yards. She went on to say that from the initial design being sent it may take from 6 to 9 months before the fabric will be ready to appear in stores. So, those lucky enough to find a much sought after piece of fabric from yesteryear are thankful that there are places that grab bolt ends and store them away.
Why is that? I mean, I have been wondering for some time that they are constantly bringing in new lines..all manufactures do it. I haven't a clue as to how the textile industry works, but good grief, someone has to come up with the design/print...have it printed in tons of yards (or whatever) and then sent to the stores and hope it sells. I would think it'd be pretty expensive to constantly be production new stuff so fast. I know new things come out all the time, but in this case...nothing it upgraded, or added to...just totally re done..so to speak. Why do they have the fabrics come and go so fast? I watch all the time and literally can't keep track of the many many many lines that come out nearly on a monthly basis!
From my understanding, from Jenny, precuts are cut from the fabrics before the yardage is bolted. So once the precuts go out, that is it for that batch. It makes my head spin thinking of all the fabric lines that I have seen on here, let alone those that are not. We have too many choices!!!
All of that being said, she also said most designers usually stick to a similar palette for most of their designs, so even though a certain line is no longer available, chances are the designer will have a line that goes with what has been discontinued.
That's true. The first line that I fell in love with was Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille. I have noticed that their subsequent lines have mostly the same colors and look - Marmalade, Happy Go Lucky and the new one (don't remember the name). Also Ruby, the line prior to VM was similar in color and design.
Love bonnie and camille designs
I realized the color palette thing also. I know one of my favorite Christmas fanrics was done by Kate Spain. She has come out with new designs, but they would go with the two year old Christmas designs Kate did in 2011.
See it - buy it (otherwise you might lose it!) That's my motto
By the way - language problems again - WHAT THE HECK IS A TRUCK SHOW?
Sorry I meant TRUNK - is that what we Brits call a boot? (ie a car boot sale= selling goods from the back of your car)
or do you mean a large oversized suitcase? :icon_heh:
