    Lightbulb The String Quilt

    Greets everybody,

Thanks to the lovely membren here I just found out about "string quilts". Of course I had to Yahoo search it to find out what they hey they are. FINALLY! It looks like what I thought quilting was all about (before approaching my girlfriend to teach me how to quilt and seeing the myriad of supplies supposedly needed) First Handmade Quilt | Sew And CroSew And Cro. I knew here had to be a method of quilting that did not require deep pockets.

Is there anybody here into making string quilts? I'd love to find a kindred spirit or two, or three . . . .

I just noticed that your avatar is a Ted DeGrazia design. I'm a huge fan of his work and x-stitched the little sewing girl for my DG when she was about 3. I also stitched the flower girl and flower boy and they turned out so cute!! I'm sure a kindred spirit will turn up for you, Lyric. Barb

That is good to know. Short story . . . a couple of weeks back I was blessed via a Craigslist ad nonetheless with quilting and sewing supplies. Quilting And Sewing Supplies Blessing | This card was among the original owner's belongings. It spoke to me as I will be a treadler and on other levels. I have it hanging in my sewing room in remembrance of her.

I can say I am agreeing with you, Shermur, from what I've been spying the last hour or so. I started a thread inquiring whether folk preferred paper or muslin for the piecing. Excited to see what gives re. that. Now that I think of it perhaps paper lends itself to quilting when done whereas I read using muslin makes it a little more difficult to quilt. I just can't get with all that ripping. But, it may be one of those things where once you do it you find it's no big deal. The thought of ripping out the paper may be worse than the reality, giggles.

Oh Beautiful String quilt. I love how you put the extra white sashing in this one. Such a great idea to add more POP to it. Thanks for sharing. Gave me another idea. Just what I need. LOL..

I bought the papers but was thinking of cutting them down to 8''. Here is a thread with a couple of links. I put my favorite towards the bottom. I'll be up for one of these after I finish all my holiday gifts
