Quillo(w)s?
Have recently seen several blogs showing Quillos. I understand what they are and how they work when using a length of fabric but does anyone know how I can use a quilted /pieced top for the front (and pillow pocket) and a coordinating fabric for the back.
Is it possible to quilt the front and pocket first and does it have to have a backing? (ie a three layer sandwich) I'd like to adapt some of my Jelly Roll race quilt tops into Quillows.

Re: Quillo(w)s?
I made these with Fleece for all the teen girls a few years ago. If I were to make them with a quilt top (flimsy) I would use fleece as a batting/backing combo or maybe Minky. I would put the quilt together and then add a quilted pocket. Great idea and I never thought of doing these as quilts.

Re: Quillo(w)s?
Have made many in the past...currently making one using friendship braid pattern. Will quilt without the pocket..then position the pocket on the bottom, sew in place, incorporating bottom of pocket in the binding. I'm thinking it's gonna work...make sense ?!

Re: Quillo(w)s?
Have been thinking about asking this question for ages, I can't figure out how to avoid the 'square box' stitches on the back where the pocket is fitted, is it ok to put the pocket on the flimsy first then sandwich and FMQ avoiding the pocket area or will the wadding be floppy ......if that makes sense.

It would be floppy but you could hand quilt the inside of the pocket if you wanted.

That's exactly what I was wondering too! I want to quilt the top and pocket (with or with a backing) Fix the pocket to the back THEN join it all together if possible - just can't quite get my head round it at the moment

I don't think it can be done. Quilting is what attaches the backing to the other layers. Maybe someone else knows how to do it but I just don't think it is possible. I am sorry.

I hate to use the 'H' word, but you could hand sew it down.
