Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Last year was my first year at quilting so I took a class and made a sampler. Then I took the BOM class from Craftsy.
This year, I joined two BOMs at my LQS. One is done (made a leafy quilt) and the other is waiting for me to decide on sashing. My sister and another friend also joined the Sugar Block Club and are anxious to finish that in December when we get the last block's instruction. And we all did versions of the local shop hop quilt.
With the new year approaching, we've been talking about what to do next together. We really enjoy doing the same pattern and marveling on the colors and fabrics each one of us has chosen. So I've been scouring the internet, looking for a project. I found Delightful Stars and Aiming for Accuracy at Mishka's Playground and really like them. We might do one of them, but I'm still searching.
Besides doing a pattern together, we also do our own things. I'm working on a t-shirt quilt, a fidget quilt, and stuff for church.
What are you planning on doing?

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Lots and Lots of plans.
One thing for sure is a Civil War Sampler. I bought my friend a CW layer cake and matching FQ's of lighter shades of the fabric from the same line, and Barbara Brachman's book. I also bought myself the same fabric. So, we plan to make sampler blocks with the fabric until it is gone and then get more!
So many quilts to make - so few years to make them...:(

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have no idea yet, I have a few things I could do... but not sure. I have two different sets of repro fabrics that I love and I need to find projects for those. I have the stuff to do a second Googlies quilt, it was so easy and fun, I decided to do two because dh wants to put bunks in the bedroom we have for the grandkids... So, that will be cute. I'd like to do a block of the month perhaps... Not sure. I still have yet to do a Jelly Roll race but do have the fabric I want to do it with...
I guess I need to look at my list I made last year, check off all the completed projects, start a new list and go from there.
I think I want to take some actual quilting classes and learn to FMQ well and maybe to Long Arm. Jenny is starting to offer classes at the retreat center and it looks like there will be something to do every month, I probably will take advantage of some of that.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Kens, that will be fun to have bunk beds to decorate! Gosh I've been quilting only since last November as well... so many quilts in such little time they whirl past me.. let's see in 2014 I hope to do 1 a month Quilt4Kids, I'm stashing black and white fabrics and grey to do a fun 90 x 90 quilt for our 5th wheel "king", Have fabric already to do another Around the World quilt, bought well I bought enough pre-cuts in October for about 30 more quilts!! I got to get busy :icon_heh: OH after hubby saw my Iron Quilt (TONIGHT 1st time) he said That is what Quilts should "look" like, traditional?? Geeze just when I'm loving moving into the more modern looking ones... *sigh* So Jenny's Big Star is on my list now too
That's what I'm doing in 2014 what's on your list?

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have no definite plans for 2014, but I took inventory of my stash yesterday, and every quilt better have a jelly roll in it. I have way too many stashed. And no more JRR quilts, I have them all over the house and have gifted them to practically every family member! On to a new use of the esteemed Jelly Roll!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have been gathering fabrics for a blue and white quilt, and also for a low contrast (aka low volume) quilt so those will be my 2 New year projects. I have a magazine pattern for the blue & white, but no pattern yet for the low contrast. It doesn't seem worth it to do an elaborate pattern with low contrast fabrics, but I don't necessarily want to do a one patch pattern like bricks either. So I don't have plan for that one yet.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have no definite plans but here are a few that I would like to accomplish:
1. Quilt the Maple Leaf Log Cabin quilt.
2. Take a class at the LQS
3. Make some memory quilts of my brother (to give to family)
4. Finish my Ellie Ann quilt
5. Organize my sewing room
I'm sure I will find a lot of other things to do/make also.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Here's what is on the list so far:
1: Finish the tennis quilt I started for my daughter to take on the road. Her college tennis season starts in January so I need to get busy!
2: Make three "50th" birthday quilts for childhood friends. They actually turned 50 in 2013 but I'm behind!
3: Make a baby quilt for a colleague having a child in April.
4: Make a quilt for me. I bought some beautiful low volume fabric at Hawthorne Threads in October and need to decide on a pattern.
5: Set up my Bernina frame and learn how to use it.
6: Learn how to use my new Bernina 780 (especially the embroidery module)!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
So much could be happening for the family and I in 2014, so it's hard to make long range plans on the quilting. I'll be taking weekend by weekend!
* I'd like to save up for a new sewing machine and/or a long arm machine.
* I'd like to attempt the Big Star pattern.
* I like to condense my scraps into beautiful creations...love scrappy!
* I would love to have my sewing room more organized and user friendly!
* And provided we move from Missouri to Arkansas could change all the plans/goals above!
Cross your fingers please!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I make of list every year of what I aspire to make in the following year. I hit the target pretty well in 2013. I have two large quilts to make for family and two large UFOs to take care of. These four quilts may take a few months. I also want to keep with the Groups I belong to...PICU, Bereavement and Cyber Elves. I always make a small bright quilt for the summer and normally give them away. I'm keeping the Double Tumbler quilt (Summer Bazaar) I made in 2013. It's one of our faves and it was so darn simple! I'm thinking of doing something with Lone Stars next year.....just thinking at this point. I love the Vin du Jour line by French General and want to make something special with it. All of this and I have jury duty January through April 2014 so I will be somewhat tied down.
I hope everyone achieves their quilting dreams in 2014.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Don't make my brain hurt too much . . . I have a very long list of UFO's that I wish I had time to finish before 2014.
* Quilt three tops that are sandwiched - Al's RW&B, the 3Dudes Christmas Hidden Wells, and the Animal Print Swap top
* Finish Aunt Hannah's Sun Bonnet Sue - after deciding what I'm going to do with the mess - think I've narrowed it down in my brain
* Get that 3 color top cut and finished - I bought fabric on a shop hop 2 years ago - green FQs in my album
* Make my oldest DGD a new quilt
* Pull out those two HUGE matched FQ stacks and make 2 KS tops
* Use up those Bali Pops
* Start a scrappy patch
***STITCH***

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
No joke - the only definite plan I have for 2014 is to make sure the UFO IQ is done!
Many friends are having grandkids this year so baby quilts are probably in my future.
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
My sewing room better be clean by the end of this year.
Next year,
I want to actually take the time to watch the Craftsy classes that I have already paid for.
Take a class at a LQS
Finish at least three of my UFO's.
Get better at FMQ (the Crafty classes should help with this)
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Hmmmmmm.... Good question!
I, too, have UFO 's to finish.... That goes without saying....
I have a toddler Falling Charms to get up on the design wall.
A friend has a died for a quilt....using Ellie Ann.
I really want yo get started with the little Bereavement quilts.
I have a Halloween layer cake to use for a grandson.... It will be a Double Sliced... I think.
I want to do a layer cake DNP. I have a pretty black and white layer cake to work with... Will probably use red cornerstones.
There are it her ideas floating around in my head.... Who knows what will actually get done.....
Oh... If I can afford it, I want to take a class in FMQ...
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Gson#3- wants a "green" quilt.. color green that is- still purchasing the greens for it
GD - finish her quilt.. Light into Dark ufo.
And finish any charity obligations that didn't get done in 2013.
inventory my stash.... and decide on my next project/ quilt - I am loving the reds!!
Maybe a class at my LQS.
Who knows what else may step in and take over...

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I made a list last year thinking I will make a quilt for every season/holiday. Only thing I got done on that list was a christmas quilt I just finished and literally hated every stitch I did in it! Turned out okay, but for some reason I just hated the whole experience. Never happened before and it was weird. But it is nice and keeps me cuddly while watching TV.
Then I recently thought, why bother? I am in Southern California...I don't need a quilt in the hot months...May - October! Why make quilts for those seasons/holidays?? 2012 I made quilts for every grand child. So next year, I have to..
1. Finish the Bargello I made for my daughter. Done, just have to put a label on it and do the binding.
2. Finish the civil war theme quilt I made for my son. I have the top done, and got the back and batting..just have to get it done.
3. A quilt as a wedding gift for a first cousin once removed in April
4. Finish a quilt I have been designing for my guest room..top is done, now need the sides (bed spread size) and then to finish.
5. I want to find and create a quilt with houses on it. Applique or piece the houses, but for some odd reason, houses have been a little favorite of mine to make..haven't made anything out of it, but a wall hanging about 20 years ago, but I want to make a town or street scene or something like that...FOR ME!!!
as far a quilting goes, that is all I have planned. But I want to get some decorative throw pillows done for my living room and finish decorating the guest room and hopefully re organize my sewing room and get some usable furniture in there to make it look nice instead of just a room with fabric, two tables and 2 machines sitting there! Also need to focus on some household decor too...things on the walls etc... just spruce up the house. Maybe get into quilted wall hangings.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have so many projects to finish before Christmas that I have not really thought about next year, yet.
UFO's go without saying, right? However, there is one I really need to get back to - the kaleidoscope one that is my avatar!
What I know that I want to do:
* a square in a square from the 2 black and white swaps I was in (charms and strips)
* more paper piecing - I tried it for my mug rug and really liked it
Not awake enough to come up with more - think I am going to head for a nap. :)

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
My plans are the same as always. PICU, COC, Bereavement quilts and I need to get a few together for Brook for the pregnancy center. She probably thinks I forgot about her, but I just had a busy, rough summer. Would love to make a quilt for myself. Someday.
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I just need to finish up things I've started. Then I'd like to start my Dot quilt that I've bought fabrics for this past year. If all else fails I think I will take all my stash to Jean and we can start our own fabric store.
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have been quilting (on and off) for years, but I feel I have nothing to show for it. So this coming year I plan to make quilts only for me and my husband. Also, I plan to make some wall hangings and things that I can use to decorate my home.
I am working on some BOM classes on craftsy and think they are amazing. I don't have any quilting friends, so doing these classes feels like I am part of a community.
There are some designs that I would like to try, Lone Star, Amazon Star, etc. And definitely work on FMQ. I think my biggest hindrance to FMQ is that I get so tense, and then can't go for very long. Perhaps one of my 2014 resolutions should be to only FMQ after a couple glasses of wine!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
After the holidays I will start the blocks for the Civil War quilt. I'm not rushing it and will just work on one block a week. I'm just starting another quilt , Summer In The Park, and I still have one quilt sandwich and ready for me to take the plunge and do the quilting and another hanging on the design wall that I haven't found the fabric I want for the backing and border.
Oh, and I just bought fabric to do the Lone Star quilt featured in the McCalls Quilting magazine Jan/Feb 2014 issue. I'll need more time to reread the directions and just go slow. Never heard of crosshairs before so need to do some research. All of this should take me into 2015 :)

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Yup I do. First to do the projects in bags. There is at least a dozen. Then create and make my wizard of oz quilt. And somewhere in there manage to attend a retreat. Maybe the october one so that I can have the opportunity to meet the original retreat gang
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
One thing for sure, is to finish a quilt I started working on this year. Other than that, I need to think about it.
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Oh I have big plans, but probably won't get half of them done  I need to make 4 quilts out of my Dads shirts (having a hard time cutting those up). 3 baby quilts have to be done by February, pinwheel, just about every project inthe last Quilting Quick,y magazine, some of those cute fabric boxes, some table runners, wine totes, ...........the list is endless! Too bad I have to work during the day!
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I am jealous, wish I livedon 'that side' of the state and couldpop in for some classes!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
This week I will finish the quilt for Heather.......daughter. I plan to stop working on Dec 14th when we go on holiday and only sew things I want to until Christmas. Between Christmas and New Year I will make the quilt that is on my conscience (I won't go into it but its for someone I don't care for and hence don't want to make this quilt but I will feel better once its done)
After that I have orders for 3 king size quilts for some 'posh folk' which Heather predicts will open some flood gates. that's the first quarter of the year taken care of.
I am hoping to clear out my train crash of a work room in between the above. My friend Caroline has a 'winter project' for us to do which consists for her making a quilt and co ordinating curtains and for me to drag her away from her brown and green colour scheme which she has clung to for 18 years.
Wish me luck with that!

SIL? As for the first of the year, you've got your work cut out for you with 3 king size quilts!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I've completed quite a few things this year mostly gift quilts, with that said my quilts and projects got bumped to the back burner so 2014 will get off with getting my UFO's finished. I have an embroidered advent calendar to finish, an embroidered table topper, and a quilt top to finish before I start any more.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have lots of quilt plans. A graduation quilt for my niece with this line of fabrics http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...pse9fcf8f0.jpg
My quilt group also makes graduation quilts for the seniors at a children's home our church sponsors.
Finish two for a girls home in India
One for my Grandma
Two for myself I've had for four years that I keep pushing to the back of the to do list. One of them a reverse applique out of this fabric http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/p...y7/006-4-1.jpg
Is that only 7? I thought the list was much longer! Maybe I'll actually get to my quilts this year :)
I'm also wanting to do the Serendipity quilts in Jenny's tutorial, but I don't want them limited to Christmas colors. My group makes quilts to give to people who are sick or hurting in some way, so I'm still looking for a jelly roll with 3 or 4 pretty colors.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I know I won't be doing the BOM this next year, because it's been discontinued on Wednesday nights. The only day offered will be Saturday and I always work Saturdays. Not very happy about that! But then, neither are several others! I will be doing the next club that replaces Thimbleberries, and am already signed up for that.
My goal is to complete projects that are in the works. That may include piecing to fmq'ing, to cutting fabric I have bought for planned quilts.....I know there are at least four of them!!!!
All in all, I will be a busy woman!
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have a 25th anniversary (my son and DIL in March) so that is on the agenda, I have the fabric just don't know what design yet. Then one for my new grand niece due to arrive in May. I'm also going to work on a wall hanging for ME. I don't know which one, but that is also on the agenda. I also have to work on dresses for Africa and of course pillowcases for Ronald McDonald house. I also need a bank account that does not empty quickly:lol:
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I have 12 blocks of applique completed for my husband's quilt so have to finish that. Also have fabric for a quilt for myself and one for my daughter. I have also purchased quite a few jelly rolls and fat quarters plus some yardage but not sure what I am going to make with them. I did just buy an awesome table runner and matching placemat pattern that I can't wait to try. I am planning on being busy sewing next year. It is a luxury being retired.
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
First, I want to finish the Vintage Moments quilt I've started.
Then a civil war quilt that has hexagons and applique in it.
After that, I need to finish the gray, black, white, and teal quilt that I'm making for a friend's daughter.
If I can find the fabric I need, I'll make the quilt that my son designed.
I'd also like to make my son a wall hanging called Stony Creek. Not sure why it's called that, but it is a cool quilt.
I'm sure I'll find something else on my bucket list that I want to make this year...if only there were more months in the year.
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
Sounds like most of us will be busy.
I have a few things on my to-do list for next year which include:
First of foremost, trying to find a job, since I'll be leaving my current job at the end of this month...
then of course, in my free time or until I find a job, i'll be cleaning house, taking care of the little one, and quilting away.
The quilting projects I know I'll have to finish are
1. A queen size bed quilt for my cousin, using the Summer Breeze fabrics.
2/3. Two throw quilts (Christmas themed) for a coworker.
4. Continue working on my First Ladies BOM with my LQS
5. Another queen size bed quilt for my brother and his wife.
Everything else will be extra if I'm lucky.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I bought the Dear Jane book a while ago, so want to start that one, I also want to do a jig saw patterned play mat for my new Grandchildren, when they arrive
-
Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I need to get through this year first, but I do have plans for the upcoming year.
1) finish the major cleaning of my sewing room. Now that my fabric is all organized, the rest should be easy. Plus I'm hoping I get what I asked for (bookcase) so things will really stay organized.
2) finish the few UFO's that I have. I think I have 4 that are pretty close to being complete and then I can start with a clean slate
3) someone had posted a pic of a quilt made with American Jane Punctuation fabric. I fell in love with it so I bought some of the. Fabric, which is hard to get now, and that quilt will be for ME.
Other than that, I'll be working on seasonal stuff and many things, I'm sure for Julia.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
OH MY: This "new to quilting/emboridery" is still learning her new machine. I made 9 quilts for Christmas gifts, patched and crooked as they were, but they were for children, so I dont think they will be scrutinized too closely, however, I want to join a BOM and my quilt guild has one, I just havent had the nerve to turn one of my BOMs in yet. But will starting Jan. I want to learn to paper piece and have found some really cute blocks, but it is difficult for this left brainer.
I vow to finish my granddaughters chevron Lovely fabric quilt, any aspergers grandsons Texas flag "comforter" as he insists he hates qulits.
So, I will be a busy bee, making things no one wants LOL and trying to repair quilts my son drug out from somewhere that he insists my mom made in the 1940's. funny I never saw these before!
Nana in Texas

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
My first plan for 2014 is to finally paint my sewing room. We have converted our sunroom into my sewing room but hubby still hasn't fixed the ceiling so I can paint. He has promised me he will fix it after the holidays.
Second, organize all my stash. I purchased some organizational boxes from Joann's and I want to fill them with different "quilt kits". Once everything is organized I will piece one quilt at a time. While doing that I will be making charity quilts and pillowcases.
2013 has been a great year and I am greatly looking forward to 2014!!!

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
I'm committed to the Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt by Bonnie Hunter. This is a challenge: so many hubdreds of tiny pieces! Practicing is definitely improving my accuracy in cutting and sewing, if not my speed.
Quilting -both SITD and FMQ- are also to be worked at. I'm thinking of small things: bibs, changing mats, totes.
When I feel confident enough, I'd love to make a "Good night, Irene" quilt for myself, queen size.

Re: Anyone got quilt plans for 2014?
As a new quilter...I have loads of ideas running through my head. A tablerunner for all of the holidays, want to hone my skills with a few baby quilts. I have to keep practicing to NOT bunch up my backing fabric as I machine quilt. Some more tablerunners for gifts.... maybe I will graduate to lap quilts eventually! oh, and keep buying more fabric! LOL
