Default Sunday Night *Hoots* Open Mic

Hi all Night Owls, Sunday Night and it's Open Mic night - Chat about anything we want

So as I'm quilting my Iron Quilt I tend to think of the list of What's next. Realized I have quite a few things planned ahead already. I need to stop thinking so far .

Wondering what's next on your list? Here is mine so far

    Pillowcases for Ruby
Penny Patch Quilt for the Grandkids
6 Christmas Fabric Balls (because I bought a six-pack of the styrofoam balls)
    6 Christmas Fabric baskets
Black and White quilt for our 5th wheel bed
Borders on the California King bed at home and quilt and bind it
And I'm not even listing any Quilts4Kids here those I try to cut when I 'm making any other and sew that along side.

Hope everyone stayed inside safe and warm today

Every time I think I'm making a dent in my list it grows We've had so many new babies this year and there are still 4 more coming. I have quilts, receiving blankets and burp cloths to make for the 4 still coming, my moms pink and brown quilt, my quilts for seniors and a signature wedding quilt to prepare for. I also have my first grandbaby coming in January and need to finish the pad for on top of the toy box, the runner for on top of the dresser and some nightgowns and dresses I'd like to try and make. The list is even longer as I don't have any of the ones I want for myself on there or the ones I'd like to make for Sue. But isn't that the fun part of quilting, the list never ends

We are early night owls tonight!

    My list at this point:
    • Finish IQ - all of the blocks are done now, so I have hope if I burn some midnight oil!
    • More pillowcases for Ruby and one for my nephew.
    • Mail pillowcases and mug rug for swap.
    • Quilt and bind the PICU/NICU quilts for Marilyn. One panel is quilted, just needs to be bound, another top is ready and I have another panel.
    • Quilt table runners I put together last year.
    • Pajama pants for the kids.
    • Potato bags
    • Bereavement group quilts

I have tons of quilts I want to make, but I have to get these projects done first. I always have more in my head - need more hours in the day.

I'm sorry your MIL didn't acknowledge your precious gift. I know it eats you up not knowing, but I would let it go and move on. I learned this the hard way with my SIL who didn't like me. I tried several times to be her friend, only to get knocked down emotionally. I had to come to grips with the fact that some families are not as close as my own family. I quit trying and immediately felt a weight lifted from me.

Your MIL will never know the good person that you are.

    My list is short.

    • Make some snap bags for a church sale in December.
    • Make 5 blocks for a BOM that I'm behind on.
    • Decide on colors for the sashing and border of the BOM quilt.
    • Buy some more white yardage for a periwinkle quilt I started.

There's more, but that's at the top of my list for now.

My list gets longer every day! I need to stop looking at various quilt blogs and YouTube videos and make what I have in my head!! I recently bought all of the creative grid rulers by Karla Alexander. I have made two quilts, working on the third and have another ruler still in the package. . . and there is the scrappy bargello (Bonni Hunter's pattern) I have started that has been sitting on my sewing table for a month.... all the strips are cut (well, most) I just need to get bforum.missouriquiltco.comther!! I finished a quilt today and had to decide, bargello / new project / bargello / new project. . . guess which one won??? Yep, new project!! I should have started sewing strips together for the bargello!!

Anyway, since it is open mic I have a question - have you ever given a quilt, a special quilt that you worked very hard on and the recipient did not even acknowledge it? If so, what did you do? Leave it, ask them if they got it (mailed) . . . send a nasty gram (I'm kind of kidding.... ) This obviously happened to me recently. My not so sweet MIL who really does not like me (after 13 years one would think she would figure this isn't a fling... LOL) was the recipient. I was hurt initially and then thought maybe she sent a thank you card. . . nope. Maybe she sent email to hubbins. . . nope. Now I am angry. I likely will not do or say anything. . . no reason to make the situation worse. She is who she is and I guess I just need to get over it. OK, done ranting but I really would like to know if this has ever happened to any of you and how you reacted.

Murphy, just let it go. I am not even sure why you would spend so much time on something for someone that you know does not like you. 1/2 hr max time spent on 'those' people. You can't buy love or friendship. All you can do is keep the fire from burning down the house. Ya know what I mean.

On my to do list: Ha Ha..if I listed it all it would crash the servers.
Tomorrow I have to mail quilts (12 for bereavement support group) and pillowcases.
Go to UPS to return 4 -10" tablets (the return shipping is on them). Yep I said 4.
Get turkey and a few other things for Thanksgiving dinner, which will be Friday here.
Won't have the grands again til Wednesday, so gonna try to get a couple of PICU quilts done for delivery next Mon or Tues.
Gonna make a runner for special cousin, just because.
Guess I need to throw a little cleaning in there somewhere.

Thats a tough situation murphy. Since I am never one to be quiet, I would first be sureshe received it if it was mailed. Then I would just ask whyshe did not say anything. I would ask if she likes it or would, she like to give it back so the quilt can go to someone who would appreciate it. But it all depends on your situation. Also, what your husbandsthoughts are toowould have to weigh in.

Projects galore under my sewing table. All quilts. While I enjoy seeing all the beautiful things being made, I am sticking to quilts for now. I love the many many patterns out there and totally love the process.

Still working on those dang Christmas stockings and finishing up the Secret Santa box. Both have deadlines that are looming closer and closer. Every time I think I have a day to sew, I end up having GGS here. This week they went home and MIL came down with their colds. I've been changing her a lot, putting her oxygen back on when she decides to go down the hall without it and can't breathe. This afternoon she was in the kitchen and did dishes (for the first time in 3 yrs) and emptied the dirty dishwasher. I think it was her way of thanking me for taking care of her!

Now I'm going back to the sewing machine and try to make some progress.

    Oh projects.....hmmmm well....

I have 3 quilt tops to be quilted...2 are Christmas/winter themed.
I want to do some embroidery ornaments
I want to trade up my machine
    Set the BOM quilt
Make shoeflys for design class quilt
    Work on my hexi quilt
Learn a jo Morton method for needle turn appliqué

    How daunting is all that?

Today I worked on the last BOM then I did my design class block and my color way design class block. I framed all the blocks in my color way..still have to frame the class color way...but in between time I spent my time at Elm Creek with Sylvia and all her quilting friends. It's such a nice place to visit...I find myself wishing I were truly there with them....

Murphy.... I have not had that happen, and depending on the relationship how I would handle it. If my mil didn't like me I don't think I would be surprised that she didn't respond but I would call and ask. Definitely! But I also don't think I would have made her a quilt in the first place. Knowing she didn't like me I would have been put off by that. Kudos to you for being a better person than me! I guess I should say now....prolly not to do anything that I would do...

I am new to this so will attempt to post my very first reply. In regards to the MIL situation, I have come to realize there are many people in the world that either do not understand the need for certain social graces, such as thank you's, or do not understand how it can and almost always does hurt the "giver". However, we must not let that take away from our intent as the gift was given. I believe your heart was in the right place and that is what matters. We cannot control their reaction ( or lack thereof).
In regards the "what do I do next?!" , my list is full also. Currently working on a frog stuffed with corn for a friend to give a grandchild and an apron for my soon to be five year old grandson with red tractor fabric.
