Thanks everyone for the input. As for her not knowing what went into it, she was a home ec teacher. . . she is very aware. I did it for my hubbins more than anything.... he wanted me to send the Out of Square (in my album) quilt to her but there was NO way that was happening as I was guessing the response would be just as it is - non-existent.... Live and learn. The situation is that she likely wouldn't answer if I called. I might however just send an email and ask her if she got it.... She likely won't answer that either.

Anyway, back to quilting! So many quilts, so little time!!! LOL

This is what my 9 year old great niece gave me BEFORE she even saw her angel outfit for Halloween. Her mother, my niece, has always had the girls send thankyou's for gifts and special things. Even her 11 yr old sister thanked me for making Ally's costume even though I didn't make one for her this year. She decided that she was getting older and they don't do the parade around town when you are in middle school so she didn't need a special one. LOL.
They even sent a thankyou to a man who let them come to his farm and let them ride the horse and do farm things. He was a friend of my brother, and he called my brother and was crying, saying no one had ever sent him a thank you before.

That is how we were taught as well Dolores! What a sweet note that is. Sorry some adults don't get it Murphy, and a Home Ec teacher so she knows what kind of work went into that quilt! Well you have a good man, his mom's just a mess

Dolores, What a wonder thank you note, it is things like that that make up for people like Murphy's MIL. They also make us continue to make gifts or do things for others just because we want to. Such a nice thing to read especially during this time when so many people are concentrating what they want from others instead of thinking about what they can do for others. Give those kids a special hug from all of us, and your niece also for showing her kids a better way to live.

I have no list of what I have to do - as some time ago I made a decision to not give gifts for holidays. I will make something for someone when I feel like doing it. Of course, I feel like making my SIL a quilt for the holidays and am working on that. If I get around to it, will make some microwave bowls for coworkers and family - but refuse to put any pressure on myself for these things. Back when knitting was my passion, I made a very cute sweater for a new famiy member, mailed it off and never heard a word about it. That quickly cured me from thinking that I had to make things for people, as many really don't understand the thought that goes into a handmade gift. I do love to give things to those that I know will appreciate my effort.

I am just finding this thread and it is Monday morning already. Yesterday I decided I didn't like the way my mug rug was going, so I started all over and did another one. I spent most of the day working on it while watching football. Now I have to bind it and send it one its way. I don't know why I do that to myself.

My list is so long it would take forever, but I am going to finish four rag quilts and pillowcases for the grandkids and two lap quilts for my DH and brother. Anything else that I finish by Christmas will be a bonus. I have seven baby/crib size quilts in various stages of completion, so they will be next on the list. The hand work gets attention in the evenings while I am watching tv and it always depends on my mood as to what gets done.

Right now I need to stop looking at things and start cleaning this house. My out- of -town kids are coming in tomorrow night, so better get with it. DH has two doctor appts. this week and a friend's DH passed away, so have to make time for all of those things as well. I'm just glad I am not hosting Thanksgiving this week; just have to make a dish or two.

Delores, it is so refreshing to see that thank you note; it seems to be a lost art these days. My DILs are both very good at having their kids send thank yous. It just seems like such a small thing, but really means alot, doesn't it? As for the MIL who didn't respond at all; I guess you just have to chaulk it up to it being HER problem and let it go. I certainly wouldn't bother to make her another thing: EVER.

Have a good day everyone; I HAVE to get off of this computer and start cleaning ot it will be Thursday and I'll still be sitting here.

It is a little over the top, so let me explain. My son grew up with surfing and he was best friends with Bruce and Andy Irons who are some of the best pro champion surfers in the world. My son know other pros and has even been in Surfer magazine himself. He Mc's surf contests. So there is going to be every surfer including the young kids. Then the beach bunnies. lol

I can't sneak in and out. He rented a beach house with a big lawn and will probably bring in tables and benches. It's where my stepdd got married and she did the same thing, invited everyone she ever met. I have a sneaking feeling she did it for the money gifts. The family got to stay over night. Oh I forgot, it's an hour and a half away and my dd is driving so I'm stuck.

I guess Ill find a good place to sit and just people watch with a beer or two. lol
