Does anyone else ever....
get "but first" disease?
I did today, well, it is almost a daily occurance with me. Today I was working on the backing for a quilt that I did not buy enough fabric for, so doing blocks that match the front only smaller. Daughter calls and she is on her way over with 2 of the grandkids, ooops, I better get that final border for one of the quilts for granddaughter cut and put on the quilt so daughter can see the finished top... got the borders cut out, but not on... break time to play with the kiddos... lunch.. better get back in the sewing room and keep going... nope, the footstool needs recovering (has for many months) so, I start taking the fabric off of it, end up slicing my finger really bad, took about 15 minutes for the blood to stop enough to see if I still had part of the staple in there or not. Just a really bad V cut, on my 3rd bandage in about 45 minutes. Darn old footstool. The thing is 33 years old, it is high with skirt around it. My cats love hiding under it. I can't find another footstool with an area big enough for them to crawl under or I would buy a new one. I just can't bring myself to throw this one out when they love it so much.
So, now, here I sit, quilt border cut, pieces cut out and squared up for more small blocks, footstool half taken apart, and I am starting to get a major headache.
What do I start with now? Borders ?, easy. Blocks ?, also easy. Footstool? not so easy but needs to be done today so that the cats have their bed. One sleeps under, one sleeps on top, at least until I go to bed.
Sorry for rambling.... time to change the bandage again.:icon_neutral:
Re: Does anyone else ever....
Ouch.... Poor you ..change bandage.. Make tea (or coffee) .. Sit down and rest.. ... Now tackle the jobs , 1st one? The one which will give you the most pleasure. Hope the finger is not too badly cut. xx
Re: Does anyone else ever....
Ouch is right. Once you get back to it, the footstool probably needs to come first. But just see what you feel like picking up once you are back in there. Maybe it will be something entirely different. Feel better
Re: Does anyone else ever....
Sorry to hear of your mishap, but perhaps the Lord is trying to tell you to slow down and take a rest for the remainder of the day. There is nothing earth-shattering about those tasks, other than some confused kitties. Maybe you could throw a towel/piece fabric over the stool, so that it acts as a skirt - one can sit on and the other crawl under! Take care and make sure to keep an eye on that cut and the nasties that can happen w/infections!

I hope your finger feels better!
I have that disease! I started the morning with tea and sitting down for a minute with intentions to started quilting because i had 4 hours before work.
Ended up cleaning the cat pan, then the whole bathroom, then my bedroom, then the living room. Somewhere in there I started clothes washing and when I was downstairs with the washer .. I turned on the lights over my sewing table and started cleaning up..sweeping, throwing away trash and found a quilting magazine and sat down and started reading.
Then it was time to start work.
Re: Does anyone else ever....
I think the first thing you should of done after stopping the bleeding is to remember when your last techness (can't remember how to spell it) shot was. You said you looked for a staple in your hand and if the stool is 33 years old that staple might be a tad rusty.
I have too many things that I need to do but will find something else to do instead.
Re: Does anyone else ever....
Tetanus...I think. Am forgetting spelling. I, too, suffer from beginning too many things and not finishing any or all. Have SOOO many quilts started that need to be finished. Haven't been home much this last year due to family illnesses, etc. Now that I am home, I am overwhelmed and hate to get sewing machine and messy projects back out because my house is finally a bit neater...thanks to my daughter's help. Am going on a week's vacation instead and taking some handwork with me to work on while I sit by the fireplace and look out at the little stream outside the window. Going to stay in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains...hope it lives up to its reputation. Will report back in a week. Have a Great Thanksgiving Everyone.

Current on my tetanus shot. I was surprised the staples weren't rusty at all. Finger hurts today, but I am pushing through... 5 quilts to get done before Christmas, and one of those I need to get in the mail on Monday for an OTR driver.
Re: Does anyone else ever....
Gee I missed the excitement Lisa! Glad to read that you're up to date on your T shot! That hurt like heck I'm sure, reminds me of when I stapled through my thumb with a commercial printer's stapler. I said some words that cannot be typed here! lol
Hope you're doing ok as you have a lot on your plate...I don't think I want to re-check my To Do List yet for Xmas. :P
Huggers, Ruby
Re: Does anyone else ever....
It is time to call it a day.... Prop your feet up, dip a glass if wine, and watch a mindless TV show... Not hard to find these days..... The cats will adapt, and everything else will still be there tomorrow.... Take care if your nasty cut..... Relax fir a while....
Re: Does anyone else ever....
oh Nooo glad you are up on your Tetnus shot - that could have been really nasty!!
Well just pick 1 and begin - I say "oh wait, there goes a Chicken" and I am that easily distracted!! So hard to focus, then I go into kitchen forget what I went to get -- Oh yes, it was.... wait what?? 3 Times later I remember and GET the dang cup of coffee rofl!
(((((Hugs)))) Healing is Job #1 - then something small that you can maybe "avoid" using that finger?
Ruby hahahaha about 3 am my sewing room was BLUE with the words I had going.... that %$@^ styrofoam kept catching on my IQ as I was moving it, then $%#^ I ran out of bobbin thread then ^%%&U# :icon_heh: well good thing no-one was UP to hear the nasty things... washed my mouth out and ready to cuss errr Sew today :-)

Re: Does anyone else ever....
Hope it heals quickly, sounds like a nasty cut.
I am constantly going from one thing to another. I just move from one new project to another. Sometimes I actually get back to the first thing and finish it! :)
Re: Does anyone else ever....
I have been chronically afflicted my entire life. It seems like everything I want to do has a prerequisite project. And the prerequisite projects has a prerequisite and so on and so on......

Oh, that sounds just like me!!!
Re: Does anyone else ever....
I pray your cut has less pain today. That should be your top priority---- for it to heal. Now take a "Deep Breathe" let out slowly, now another one. You will be surprised how much this helps. So sorry for your cut. Keep a good watch on it.
Question: Is this what is called a "Quilter's Disease"??? Total Panic??? I think at this time of year ALL quilters have it. Too much to do and too little time. Then throw in the IQ contest and we are all in a panic. At least, I know I am. What ever could go wrong with it-----Has!!! Oh Well, my world will not stop IF I don't get the stupid thing done. But I so want to finish ONE thing in my life. LOL.
O.K. I have finished a lot of quilts----but this one is giving me fits.
I have never hit any of my fingers with any part of a sewing machine. So what did I do yesterday--- caught my finger on Rt hand between the spring lever on my FMG attachment and the sewing machine. Yes, the air in my sewing room turned blue!!!!
Please, do take care of that nasty cut. Are you sure you didn't need stitches? Bleeding for over 45 minutes really worries me. Perhaps you need to check on Monday with your Dr.
Hugs to you.
