Dimensions of fabric cuts for baby pillowcase??
I just learned to make the pillowcases in Jenny's tutorial for the CEGB here on M*. I have a baby gift to make and would love to include a baby pillowcase. If a regular pillowcase is 27 inches for the body and 9 for the cuff, what would the cuts be for a baby size? Or a king size pillow?
This may be somewhere on the forum, but I can't seem to locate it and the math is escaping me for some reason. Thanks for any info on these cuts.
Re: Dimensions of fabric cuts for baby pillowcase??
The standard you make with the video is 2/3 yard, A king size pillow case is 36 inches long so you would use a yard.
Babies aren't supposed to have pillows in the crib, so I don't know, I guess you'd have to wing it on that one.

What does CEGB stand for?

I believe she is referring to the Cyber Elves Give Back group...

Cyber Elves Give Back =CEGB.
I know babies aren't supposed to have pillows anymore, but they still look pretty in a chair or something. Also had the idea of the pillowcase being the gift bag.
If anyone has any input on the baby size, I would appreciate it. Not very good at winging it anymore.
Will remember a yard for King Size. That helps a lot! Thanks!

Hi Connie,
If you used my 27" x 9" for the pillowcases as you did the French Seams instructions:
For the King you need to add 10" in length overall - You could make the Main Fabric 37" and leave the Cuff at 9" but that only makes sense if you have more than a yard of your Main Fabric. Plus with a King, you would want the Cuff to be wider in proportion to the overall length of the pillow. IMOH I would suggest doing the Main at 34" with a 12" Cuff, if the Cuff Fabric is really pretty even doing 31" Main with 15" Cuff.
I agree that a pillow shouldn't be in a baby's crib until they are toddlers. If you're making a Toddler pillow for decoration or accent piece to be used later with a quilt gift then that's a different story.
Toddler/Travel pillows measure 12 by 16 inches - your pillowcase should be around 13 by 18 to 20. Main Fabric is 17", Cuff remains 9" otherwise you won't be able to turn it inside it. Might try 19" and 7" but it might be a tight turn out. Now the width of the fabric is of course to wide for this toddler pillow - 27" wide if you're doing your 1/4 French seams neatly. If you're worried then I would cut 27.5" wide for some wiggle room. :)
Hope this helps, Ruby
-----------
Standard size pillows measure 20 by 26 inches.
Queen size pillows measure 20 by 30 inches.
King size pillows measure 20 by 36 inches.
Euro size pillows measure 26 by 26 inches.
Toddler/Travel pillows measure 12 by 16 inches.

Thanks so much Ruby for these dimensions. I was trying to figure ratios from the standard pillow and realized I simply don't remember those math skills!
Have a wonderful week!

Re: Dimensions of fabric cuts for baby pillowcase??
Thanks, again! I have been pondering the same question for a pillow case for my DGD.
Re: Dimensions of fabric cuts for baby pillowcase??
If possible, I'd buy the pillow FIRST and then cut your fabric. If you are using the case as a gift bag, then I'd go with the standardized size and hope they can find a pillow that fits later.
I have three different-sized travel pillows rolling around here. Two might get away with the same case if you are lucky. The third, no way.
While babies aren't going to use the pillow right away, it is nice to have one to prop up the elbow of Grammy, or a niece or nephew while they are holding the baby.
Thanks Ruby for the pillow size information! You are better than Wikipedia!
Re: Dimensions of fabric cuts for baby pillowcase??
You guys are funny, it's me sharing my CEGB research about pillows and pillowcases! lol
Have fun with it all, Zan, Ollie and Penny have requested pillowcases for their house and Oma/Opa's. :D
