Hi mspepper. If you go to groups - it gives the requirements for the quilts. They do say you can use flannel for the batting, but I do not see why you could not use if for your quilt itself.

I was in JoAnns and they have all flannel on sale for 2.99 per yard,,,, picked some up just in case.
