I had a blast teaching my grandson to sew -- I threaded the machine so he could begin with the 1/4" foot and practice straight sewing right away with my machine next to him - Not think it may bore him to "first" have to learn the machine and settings, that was his reading book for the night. Making something small and having it turn out Super Hooks them and then we moved onto to other terms, how to read the lines on the face place, cleaning the guts! Threading and NOT pulling the thread UP out of the machines (this eventually will lint up and mess up those tension disc). I am thrilled when younger people want to learn and try to set up much in advance so they can actually begin sewing pretty quick. You'll will share lovely memories and make some great habits for her to enjoy or a Long time if its simple enough can be completed in the small attention span and Spur them onto want to learn more Yeah!!
