    Default Smooth Table Runner

    Hello All,
I am making a table runner. I want some cushioning between the front and back but I don't want it quilted, possibly along the sides where the flange is. If I use flannel for the batting will it remain smooth after washings? Thanks for your help! Laurie

Hi Laurie and welcome from Arizona. You'll want to preshrink flannel at least a couple times, it's shrinks tons! You could use interfacing in between the layers to give it a little more weight. The type they sell for garments (think collars and sleeve cuffs type sturdy) if that's only about as "thick" as you'd want this. Good luck, can't wait to see how this turns out

Thanks Debbie. I like the thickness and feel of the thicker batting but like the look of the smoothness for this fabric. I prewashed the flannel once, I will wash it again tonight! I was also going to make a small one sew it together and try it out to see if it works like I want. Good idea for the interfacing, I have seen some that is pretty thick. I'll let you know how the test comes out and the table runner! Just really didn't want to mess up this fabric. Laurie
