    Default Pin Basting!

I just spent about 3 hours pin basting my Iron Quilter II entry. Had to take all the pins out the first time because I noticed there were some pretty bad pleats in the backing material. Repinned the backing fabric to the carpet and tried again. This time I avoided kneeling on the quilt and pinned from the center on out. Seems to have worked; no wrinkles in the back. I used a grapefruit spoon to close all the pins once I was done (and saw that the back looked good.) Tomorrow might be a good day to actually start the FQ on it. I stenciled a pattern on it, but some areas didn't come out very clearly. So I'll get creative when I come to them!

Good luck - love the idea of the grapefruit spoon - now you know why so many choose to use a basting spray.

I couldn't get down on my knees if I had to - thankfully I have a large table and I tape my backing to the table and spray away.

Anxious to see your finished product!!

    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

Got the grapefruit spoon idea from Mary Fons by watching a video on YouTube. I was ready to break down and buy the basting spray (making that "long" trip to Jo-Ann's.) I wish I still had my ping pong table, that prob would have been perfect. My knee is still giving me trouble for being on the floor for so long. I could actually see the muscle (just above & to the side) throbbing at the gym. Not good! It should ease itself out in time. Hopefully I can be done with project this by the end of the month!!

The bent pins are much easier on the fingers.

When I pin baste, which I rarely do anymore, I use a tupperware orange peeler in place of a spoon. It works great!

Right! I also heard a crochet hook can work.

Have my quilt rolled up right now, man does that thing look huge! I've only quilted hot pads, wine totes, pouches and sewing machines covers before, hope this goes well!
