This happened to me with red on an American Flag quilt I made. Broke my heart as it was for my new step grand son! I always pre wash everything. I have since gotten color catchers and use them but still.. I pre wash. My motto...as you say... Better safe than sorry. What if the fabric shrinks on the finished quilt?

Where do you find these color catcher sheets? I've heard of them, but never found them.

Great, thank you! Now just hope they have them here in Ontario. I've ordered purple for my Challenge quilt and was worried about it too.

There must be, maybe with another brand name. I find them in Spain as well as in France.

Color Catchers are invaluable! I first got them for my daughter when her daughter was born. DD had been doing many teenie weenie loads of wash to keep like colors together when I saw the advertisement.

Re: Purple fabric
Wow I am amazed .. I washed two runners in warm water instead of cold and the dark red bled through. I hope I haven't thrown them out yet....they may be able to be saved!!!
