    Default It's Amazing...

It's Amazing what a difference a dedicated sewing space makes. At our old place, I had an area in our family room, and it was nice to be able to sew and still hang out with Jim in the evening. Now that we're in the new place, I have a small bedroom that we've turned into the sewing room. I have a small bookcase, ironing boad, my big dining table with my giant cutting mat on top of it, my random stash totes - at least the ones SuzyQue didn't sneak over here and "liberate" -- are under the table. And there's a TV, with my guardian gargoyle perched on top, watching over me. I've figured out how to spend time hanging out with Jim, then I head down to my cave and crank out quilt blocks. And my seams are matching up better than they ever have. Crazy.

Now if I can just figure out where SuzyQue hid those other totes...

I'm glad your dedicated space is working for you. I have a dedicated area also and it really does make a difference. I don't know about you, but I need to concentrate a little when I sew. Now I have Miss Olive who likes to jump against the side of my chair when I sew trying to get me to put her in my lap so she can help. Believe me she's no help!

Congratulations on getting your own sewing room! It is so nice to be able to leave everything out at the end of the night and it's in the same place as where You put it the next day.

See now that you have so much space, you need to add to your stash and fill it up! Then I can come help you move them again.
Once you can dedicate a space to sewing and officially call it your studio, then all seams will match perfectly and all fabric multiplies! I wish.......but it sounds good!

Does she bump your hand with her head, asking to be pet, while you attempt to FMQ? Mine DOES!
    Congratulations for your quilter's cave!

About 2 years ago I took over one of my DD's room. But it still had her stuff, and a bed and still looked like a bedroom. Then in March of 2013 when I had an accident and could not do much else but SEW...yeah....it hit me, this is MY ROOM NOW. I took out the bed, sent it to college with another DD, bought a desk from DS he was giving away, and turned it totally into a sewing room.
    Its wonderful isn't it?
I hope you continue to be creative and get those juices flowing. The best part about it is, I don't spend time taking out and putting away, setting up a machine etc. b/c I can work on something and leave it out. WITHOUT it being in the way or someone messing with it.

Follow up question? To everyone......IS your cutting table CLEAN or MESSY? How neat do you need your sewing space to be?

My table is messy if I am in the middle of a project. But for me to start something new, I need it totally cleaned off with nothing but my mat and rotary cutter. Sometimes, I even have 2 projects at once going on the table.

It is amazing what a sewing room can do for you. The fact that I can leave a project right in my sewing machine and walk away without having to pack everything back up is a gift to me. Enjoy that sewing room Meli!

I enjoy having my own space too. Right now its a mess because I sweet talked (coerced) my husband into letting me switch office spaces with him, and I will have the larger office now.

Once I get everything moved and rearranged, I will enjoy it so much more.
