Using Clear Wonder Invisible Monofilament Thread - What do I need to know?

I bought some Clear Wonder Invisible Monofilament Thread from Connecting Threads and thought to use it when appliquéing.
If you have experience using this type of thread, I'd appreciate your advice on what worked best for you. I'm assuming I use this in both the bobbin and top thread area. Are there tension issues? Best needle size to use?

Julia, I have never used it, but would use it with caution - double check that it is heat resistant as it may melt if ironed or placed in a high heat clothes dryer . . .

I don't know about that particular brand of monofilament thread, but I use a clear monofilament from Sulky. It won't melt with my iron on the highest setting. I use it in both the bobbin and the top and didn't have to adjust my tension at all. For the needle, I use a 60/8 size; it has a large enough hole for the thread to pass through without friction, but small enough so as not to leave 'holes' in my quilt top.

I have used it as my top thread, and never use it in my bobbin since my bobbin hates it. Lately I can't see to get it threaded in my machine and my threader is broken, so I haven't used it for awhile. I think I had to loosen the top tension a bit. I pretty much stick with topstitching titanium needles, size 80 or 90.

It says on the CT site that it will not melt so I guess I'm okay on that.
I'll check my needles to see what I have just in case the 80 or 90 is a problem. I'll test on scraps before I work on a project with it.

I don't know about that brand but have great luck with Sulky on my Babylock. My Juki does not like any of the clear threads.

I'm waiting for a replacement spool to get here from CT. When I got my order the clear nylon thread was already starting to unwind with two long threads coming out from the top of the spool even with the clear plastic wrap still on it. I didn't want to take the wrapper off of it and find the whole thing starting to unwind. I contacted them before I did remove it because I wasn't sure if this was the way the spool was suppose to be. They replied back and will be sending another spool. The rest of my spools were perfect so not sure if this was an off issue with this type of thread. Not seen this happen with any of the other threads I've gotten from them.

I put a net over the spool as the thread really likes to unravel.
It also needs to be standing upright. Sometimes, it helps to put it in a jar behind the sewing machine and come up over the thread uptake setup.
If using it in the bobbin, (I never have) wind it up slower than regular thread so it doesn't stretch. (I read that somewhere.)
It is pokey at the beginning and end - I believe that I use tiny stitches to start with it and end with, then trim the thread.
The first quilt I kept for myself was done with monofilament in the top and the thread holds up after over 20 years and lots of washings.

Thank you for the advice. I hadn't realized it would stretch and I'm not sure whether to use it in the bobbin or not. I'll test some to see the difference.

I use it on top only and something like 'Bottom Line' in a neutral colour in the bobbin. (I applique the piece on using a tiny zig zag stitch)

Just a little tip for using invisible thread...

So you can see it to thread your machine, brush the first 1/2" of the thread against the end of a permanent marker, any colour. Cut the coloured end off once threaded.

Do you have to use a certain weight thread in the bobbin if your not using the invisible monofilament one in the bobbin?
I checked Bottom Line and saw it was a 60wt so that is why I am asking.

Thanks all for the replies. I'm a newbie using this so I hope not to make a mess of my machine.

I have used the Aurifil thread of this type, both on the top and the bottom. Be sure you put the net around the spool or you will be sorry! I did not applique with mine, but did micro stippling on a small wall hanging.
