It also needs to be standing upright. Sometimes, it helps to put it in a jar behind the sewing machine and come up over the thread uptake setup.
If using it in the bobbin, (I never have) wind it up slower than regular thread so it doesn't stretch. (I read that somewhere.)
It is pokey at the beginning and end - I believe that I use tiny stitches to start with it and end with, then trim the thread.
The first quilt I kept for myself was done with monofilament in the top and the thread holds up after over 20 years and lots of washings.
Thank you for the advice. I hadn't realized it would stretch and I'm not sure whether to use it in the bobbin or not. I'll test some to see the difference.
