Re: quilts around the house
I have a small house, too, with little wall space, so hanging anything but small quilts on the wall is out of the question. We have a chaise lounge in the living room and there is always a quilt on the back of it. I also used to have a small stack of quilts on the foot of the chaise until the Girls came to live with us. They bother everything every day, so the quilts were moved.
We have two rooms with beds and I change the quilts on them seasonally. In our bedroom I like something bright for Spring - we have a pinwheel quilt for Summer -in the Fall I use something in warm tones and we have a favorite Log Cabin for Winter. After Christmas until Spring I put out an antique family quilt on our bed. I may not do that next year because of the Girls. In our TV room we usually have a rag quilt and a traditional quilt on the back of the chair. The quilts in our guest room don't rotate as often as our bedroom quilts. My DH uses that room for getting dressed because his closet is in that room. He sits on the foot of the bed (on the quilt) when he puts his boots on and it rumples the quilt. Needless to say, our best quilts are never in that room.
Re: quilts around the house
I have a lot of seasonal quilts and an open concept home-meaning no wall space. I do have two queen beds and a guest room that I make up with seasonal quilts. I found two lovely oak quilt racks at Hancock that can hold a couple of quilts each, but many of my off season quilts are folded and stored away.
Re: quilts around the house
Hi Cathy, We have an open concept in our home so our wall space is limited. I have a quilt rack in the great room and one in my sewing room. I have quilts everywhere. On the backs of chairs and on couches. I have a quilt ladder with a couple of quilts on it. I do change them out since I have a lot of seasonal wall hangings. I want my DH to build me a small quilt rack for those little wall hangings that don't look right on the big ones. I also have a quilt curio cabinet that DH built and a quilt curio coffee table type table.
There should be pictures in my albums. I'm not sure since some of the pictures I had on there disappeared.
Re: quilts around the house
Shirley, I like the idea of the quilt ladder!

Re: quilts around the house
I grew up with couch throws. So I am replacing them in my home, my parents home and daughters home with quilts. Right now I have 1 top ready for Christmas and another will follow for my couches this year. I do intend on changing them seasonally. I change my drapes in the living room seasonally. I change the decorations on my mantle seasonally. As for the rest of the house I decorate for holidays but it pretty much stays the same other than that.
I have a lot of doorways and windows in my house so not a lot of wall space to display quilts. So my plan is to eventually have a quilt for every holiday/season. We have 3 bedrooms, one is now my sewing room. I have ordered fabric for a train quilt for my son's room that I will be making after Christmas. My room won't be until I am confident in my FMQing because I want a whole cloth quilt with a bed runner. That will be a long time away but someday I will get there.
I have a 97 yr old door in my dining room with 9 little window panes that I cover with a small panel and use 300 weight fleece to back it and keep the drafts on the sun porch it leads to. That is changed seasonally as well.
Re: quilts around the house
Since I started this madness two years ago, I have fully completed six quilts. Five of those went to the grandchildren last Christmas and the other, to my husband. His is folded on the couch in the family room, and sometimes it's a race to see who gets it first! I really need to make one for myself!
Re: quilts around the house
Know that feeling! I have an upholstered chaise in the sunroom with a quilt and it's a race as to who gets there first my husband or myself!

I recently saw a beautiful Thimbleberries book and there was a chapter on displaying quilts. Your library might have it.
I do have quilts in our den on the sofa and recliner plus a small one on the ottoman that the cat likes and thinks is his perch.
I am working on having different ones for each season. The off season ones are in a small armoire in one guest room.
Re: quilts around the house
I display a couple. I always have near me the COC quilt Karen made me, and my memorial quilt of my mom's. Besides that I have PICU quilts all over. I try to keep them all together, but sometimes, they end up either in the spare room (where they are supposed to be) or in the living room, before getting pics and putting them away. Plus the ones I work on just end up where ever they end up until I get them laundered and put away.
Re: quilts around the house
Seems like each quilt I have made, DD#2 can't part with. They end up on her bed (guest room) upstairs and on the Master Bed Downstairs. I have displayed a couple in my sewing area on the one and only large wall space; and drape one over the recliners.. 2
I've yet to get seasonal quilts made, but I'm working on it.. Just finished the Halloween one- It disappeared into the Master Bedroom right out of the dryer.. ??
Re: quilts around the house
Judy, loved that last line how it disappeared right out of the dryer!

Re: quilts around the house
I swap mine round. I have one on my bed that I swap round anyway, the boys have one each that doesn't get swapped round.
I have no room on my walls as they are covered with mirrors, pictures, shelves etc, but I do have one in the lounge which I use when it's cold and put in a plastic bag when I'm not using it. (To keep the cats off)
Sometimes I get all the quilts out and play with them. Then refold them and put them away.
