Hi appliqué friends!!

While I prefer to use silk for my needle turn, I've decided it's just too expensive unless its on something show quality.
Over $9 a reel here. So I've been asking a few of my designer buddies what they use, surprised that none use silk at all. They seem to like the Superior threads superbobs in the donuts, I think they hold 30 different colours. So I went searching on the net, coz they all got theirs at various craft shows. Still trying to pop my eyeballs back in my head, coz the cheapest I found was $50, right up to $65....for 30 bobbins of thread in a rubber donut!!! Ughhhh!!!

So yesterday I went to the Oz equivalent of Joanns. They sell the rubber donuts but then I'd have to buy a stack of bobbins separately so not cheap. Then I happened upon little clear boxes with hinged lids, each neatly containing 12 metal bobbins, very reasonably priced as they cost the same as 3 metal bobbins sold separately. Wondered if they'd fit the winder on my Janome but they fit perfectly.

So last night I pulled out all my hundreds of half used reels of quality threads from when I was dressmaking, and started winding after sorting by colour. Have emptied heaps of reels and now have 84 little pre wound bobbins in weeny boxes for my appliqué box. Still have about 60 to go (chose the colours I thought I'd be likely to use). Bit chuffed with myself as I never thought I'd use up all these pretty threads in a bag at the back of the cupboard.

So interested to know what my overseas friends use for their appliqué? Does anyone know how much the Superbobs are there?
