Re: Buttons - good source???
Try Walmart or Hobby Lobby...some of them carry a big assortment of different buttons...thought I saw one at JoAnnes in the sewing notion aisle but I could be wrong...
Re: Buttons - good source???
If you're looking for anything in particular, I could send you some!
Re: Buttons - good source???
If you have a Hancock Fabrics near you, ALL buttons are 50% off right now. They do have packages of several buttons that are fall, Christmas and novelty themed.
i tend to collect buttons and I have gotten a large amount at garage sales and thrift stores.

Re: Buttons - good source???
Thanks everyone. WalMart had nothing nearby, and the closest Hobby Lobby is almost an hour away. And there aren't any Hancocks in northeastern NY. But I will check Hobby Lobby next time I am down there. I guess you could say I'm looking to build my button "stash". I have snowflakes I purchased for one specific project, but other than that, I really just want a nice assortment so I can just dig and sew.

Amy: I found a bag at Joann's near me. Large, medium and small, different colors(pink, red, teal, brown, green, cinnamon, etc) in each bag. I think there were 50 in the bag. They were in the same isle as the other buttons.
I bet the snowflake ones are cute. Wish I could get very small freestanding snowflake designs to do on the embroidery machine but most are too large that I've seen.
Re: Buttons - good source???
Like fabric, I think buttons build up in a stash. Check garage sales and auctions for old button boxes and jars. You can find some real gems in these! Otherwise, just stock up when you see cute ones. Keep your eyes open......they will come!
Re: Buttons - good source???
You could buy some cheap shirts at garage sales and use the buttons. Sometimes they sell them for 50 cents.
Re: Buttons - good source???
Michaels sells containers of assorted buttons.
Re: Buttons - good source???
Thrift stores for old clothes or even a can of old buttons, just ask.
Re: Buttons - good source???
In Oz lots of thrift stores sell bottles of buttons cut off stuff not good enough to sell. Just yesterday I was chuffed (happy) to find bags full at my local $2 store, sold to use in kids craft. Lots of bigger one offs in there perfect for bags!!

Re: Buttons - good source???
If you have a facebook account you could post on there that you are wanting buttons. I have actually purchased a couple fabric estates that included tins of buttons and that's how I got stocked up.
Re: Buttons - good source???
Joann's Craft Store often has a huge bag of them for around $5. WHich I dont' think is bad, but then I don't use them alot, but...watch for the coupons and sales.. I saw them last time as buy one get one free..so 2 big bags for $5...definate bargain. I almost bought them but didn't. Or.. use the 50% coupons. Regular price all the time is just generic round, 4 hole colored ones about 1/2 or smaller in size are always 5 on a card for a buck. I'll pick up those from time to time just to have some on hand should I need them. Watch thrift store tho... I see them often there too.

That's a good idea. Hadnt thought about that!. I dont' look at clothes when I stop at yard sales or the thrift store but now with buttons in mind..that is a good source for finding unusual ones. I'll start looking!
