Question Need your opinion on photo editing software....

Well it is confirmed....Microsoft Picture It 2001 can no long exist! I have done the search for help and done everythign suggested and nothing works so the program is obsolete.

In searching for a new one.. I notice on Amazon.com that they have them, but they are all downloads. I assume I buy, they send me the info to download it to my PC instead of sending me the disk and I do that.

Does anyone have any experience or know about how this works and all? I mean, okay so I download it to my pc. Now...is the program there forever? Do I have to be online to use it? What happens if I need to reinstall it someday? what if I have a crash or for some reason have to do a system restore to prior to installing/downloading this software, how do I get it back? I assume it saves the pictures to my hard drive where I tell it to? Can the pics then be used anywhere like on a blog, here on this forum, on Facebook or Etsy places? I use Flickr sometimes and save those images to my hard drive.

I see some freebies to download. I don't need alot, just copy, adjust and save pictures from my camera SD card or an image from online that I want to save and as mentioned above places like here, etsy etc. Do the freebies do this okay and again, what happens if I need to reinstall....I know I can just go do that again as it is online, but what happens to the pictures I have saved already? If hte program crashes or leaves...does it "take" my pics with it? Can I still use the pics I have saved on my PC if I don't have that photo software or are they "lost"?

I just had to get new PC and it is Windows 7...none of my old stuff works!

Thanks for any comments and helps. I am not a PC techie person...give me a 35mm camera and a Walgreens and a pen and paper and a stamp....oh, and a few photo albums!

Before you buy anything, give me a few minutes to search around - with Windows 7 you might have a free photo editing software that is user friendly. Standby please....

Found it! It's Windows Photo Gallery - I have it on my laptop running Windows 8, and it actually is really great. There is an interface between the "my pictures" and the software, and it is very user friendly. Even better, it looks to be FREE.

Photo Gallery should be fine for you, it's an easy photo organizer. But it depends on what you mean by "adjust" - it will crop, color correct, adjust, share, even fuse different photos together to make one picture out of two.

Don't buy anything yet until you've tried the freebies.

nyscpa2be - I do have that Windows Live Photo Gallery, but it's crazy...it opens everything fine, but doesn't have a way to resize things and to adjust the color/brightness etc.I am really having trouble learning W7. IT seems to me that everything is done 3 times...well, not done three times, but saved in 3 differnet places with this Home Group feature Win7 has. And it won't let me not use that feature even tho I am the only one on the pc! I think they did this intentionally when I bought it as I had them copy over MS word from the old machien to the new on and they just did this groups thing. I called later and they said it couldn't be taken off. But if there is anything you can tell me to help.. I would be thrilled to hear it! Thanks!

All I want to do is pull pictures from my SD card of my camera, they open with this Live photo gallery thing and it doesn't have a option to resize (like make them fit for etsy or a specific pixel/inch size.) I can't find where to adjust color/brightness. Saving is annoying as it is so weird I am not sur eit is saved or where I saved it! That I know I canwork on, but the program is weird. Is there a difference between Live Photo Gallery and Photo Gallery?

Windows 7 has Paint and you can resize photos in that.

Windows Live Photo Gallery will resize, along with all the other processes. All you have to do is select your target photo - Select Edit at the top of the screen - In the third column from the left is the resize function. I haven't had any problem with it. Good luck. I hope this works for you.

AMEN! I absolutely hate dealing with digital pictures. Unfortunately, that is the what we are being forced to work with, and it is work - totally not enjoyable anymore for me. I have all but stopped taking pictures now.

I have Memory Manager by Creative Memories on my computer and it is pretty easy to use. Problem is, Creative Memories is no longer in business. You could probably find a copy on ebay -but there would be no tech support to go with it.

    Good Luck!
    Donna
