Default Don't Spend alot on Halloween Costumes

    Hi Everyone,

I just finished making my granddaughter's Halloween costume. I went to our local Salvation Army Thrift Store and purchase a beautiful wedding dress for $5.00. It had a very pretty embroidered train on it and was strapless.

I removed the train and used the embroidered part of it to make straps for it.

I then purchased a blinged out hair comb for $1.00 and tulle for $2.00.

I showed her the outcome on Skype and she just went crazy. She is 9 yrs old.

I've attached the picture for you to see. You don't have to spend alot of money to make a costume to make a child jump for joy.

Kim, you are brilliant AND talented. I would have never in a million years been able to come up with that. You have one lucky grand daughter - a happy one too!

That is cute! I've done that for my grambaby girl too. I take prom dresses and make them for her dress up collection!

You might think about getting something long sleeved for her to wear with it, here Halloween is cold and damp!

I did Kensington, I bought her a long sleeve sweater to wear with it that matches the satin fabric....trust me, it will be cold in Ontario where she lives.

What a great idea! My sister is making my granddaughter's "pincess" costume. I didn't want to screw it up. I was able to pull off the purchase of the tiara and wand.

We have so much fun with Halloween costumes - I'll have to get some pictures. Through the years my daughter and I have gotten quite creative but I think my favorite was one we did for her when she was about 12 years old. She wore a long gingham dress with a basketball underneath, a gray wig and rimless glasses, and roller skates. She was a pregnant granny on skates and won a huge trophy. So much fun!!

The cheapest one this year is going to be Emily's brown paper bag with the holes cut for eyes . . . the Unknown Trick or Treater.

Don't you love it when the kids get so involved and have fun helping with their own ideas?

    Be warned. I am BORED.
    This could be dangerous.

When you get cold just go stand in the corner.
    They are usually 90 degrees.

A giraffe's coffee would be cold by the time it reached the bottom of his throat.
Ever think about that? No? You only think about yourself??

That is beautiful! I would wear it for an actual dress.

I miss making Halloween costumes! Never have had the talent to sew clothes (zippers, buttons, fitting, oh my!), but I loved making costumes (velcro, no precise fit, it it came apart after one wearing it was cool...) Sometimes we started from scratch (Winnie the Pooh, a tiger, assorted goblins and devils.... sometimes we had Goodwill clothes as a base. One of my favorites was my daughters when she was about 4.... a dress we got from Goodwill, added a purse, black tights, red shoes, and Minnie Mouse ears.
