Iron Quilter 2 - Facebook? Ugh.
Ok so I just read on the blog that the voting will be done on Facebook. I don't have a facebook account nor do I want one. So I guess I'm outta luck on winning anything. (not that I would win, but no harm in dreaming).

I'm in the same boat for the same reasons.

I believe, that you actually upload your picture of your entry to them, using the form they provided. They will put it on their M* facebook page to be voted on by members and people who see their facebook page. YOU DO NOT have to have a facebook page to win or to see it. It's an open page anyone can see it or vote or comment.
I'm sure once the contest is closed, a link will be provided where you can go to see it, and vote or watch the voting. Good Luck!

This is my understanding:
What will happen is you will upload your picture through the link they provided.
They will compile all the entries into ONE album on Facebook...
After a week, the top 25 or 28 (if Jenny uses her 3 "saves") that have the most 'likes' on their photos will then move on to the next voting stage which will be on a different webpage.
So you do not have to create a facebook account, UNLESS you want to vote in the first stage. You can view their page and will be able to see all the entries in the album, but you have to have an account in order to 'like' the photos.
After that they will provide the second site, which everyone should be able to vote on.

I wish Facebook wasn't involved at all in this. I am not a big fan of public activity on Facebook.

I am thinking it is free, it is a way for the sponsors to get free advertising on a bigger scale and with the workload they carry at M* it is a lot easier than setting up new pages or whatever they would need for their own website to handle this contest.
I am not thrilled about the facebook thing either but I guess it is what it is.

From a management science perspective, Facebook does make perfect sense. Say we each have 100 friends - we post on our wall that the contest is up, here's the link, please vote for mine. If 100 people participate, and all their friends vote or at least view, that is 10,000 more views for M*, Baby Lock, etc, some of which will be brand new. The power of social media is actually an algorithm that can make or break a company. Jumping off my soapbox now.

That is exactly it!! This is all one huge marketing strategy for them and everyone involved. It's fun for us, but I think everyone needs to remember it is still a business, they're making loads of money off of this.
Whether you use Facebook or not, it will allow a larger number of people to vote... So really it's only helping those of us who enter the contest, no harm, no foul. Plus it's also only the first round of voting. Once they get the entries down to the top 25 or so, then the voting will return to a seperate webpage.
